Data mining of the new Pokémon GO patch shows that Generation 2 is close to release. Here you can see what else was found in the code.
The new Patch 0.49.1 for Pokémon GO described some changes in the patch notes that are now activated in the game. Data mining has revealed that there is much more content that we will soon see in Pokémon Go. For example, sound files suggest that Generation 2 will be available soon. Additionally, Pokémon genders will soon be implemented in the game. More options for character customization are also expected to arrive in Pokémon Go.
Pokémon GO: Sounds for Generation 2
As reported by TheSilphRoad, the “cries” for Pokémon 1-251 have been added to the game. This indicates that Generation 2 is already close to release. When interacting with the Pokémon of Generation 2, you will hear these cries.
Genders for Pokémon
Different Pokémon may soon be assigned genders. According to TheSilphroad, it seems that options for Male and Female are already in development. However, it does not appear that genders will be displayed in the UI anytime soon. These options may already be invisibly activated.

Shiny Pokémon for Pokémon Go
There are now more hints about Shiny Pokémon. A Shiny is a Pokémon that appears in a different color. These Pokémon are extremely rare!
Aside from their appearance, they do not differ from other Pokémon of their species. Attacks and stats remain unchanged for Shiny Pokémon.
Pokémon GO: Customize Character / Avatar
The game will introduce new options for character customization. While these are not yet visible, relevant lines were found in the code. The settings include:

It is unclear whether daily bonuses or other tasks in the game will unlock these changes.
New Baby Position for Buddy Pokémon
Currently, Buddy Pokémon are displayed next to your feet, on your shoulder, or in the air. The new baby position was found in the code. However, there are no further lines about “baby” in the code that indicate a larger mechanic. This seems to be just a small change rather than a new feature.
Pokémon GO: Christmas Event Confirmed?
In the future, it is likely that there will be an opportunity to see Pokémon in costumes. The code contains hints about “Costumes” that will come in various forms and likely for different occasions. Associated with this is the word “Holiday.” We may then see Pokémon in Santa Claus costumes promoting the Christmas Event in Pokémon GO.
