With the latest update, Pokémon GO has made several changes to the weather. Pokémon with weather bonuses now spawn more frequently.
In update 0.133.0, Niantic introduced some new features. They reduced visibility in the game and introduced gender-specific evolutions. However, it’s also noticeable that the developers have made several changes to the weather.
On Reddit, numerous players report sightings of Pokémon that usually hardly appear. This happens only because they are enhanced by the weather.
This is now different about the weather
So it was before with the weather: In the last few months, the effect of the weather was hardly noticeable. While you could find Pokémon with weather enhancements in the wild, they were actually just as common as any other Pokémon.
Monsters like Schneppke, Panzaeron, or Loturzel hardly came out during the right weather. There was even speculation for a while that Driftlon might not appear in the wild at all.
This is new now: If you now check the Nearby list, you will immediately see that some Pokémon appear that are rather rare. When it snows in the game, you will find numerous Panzaeron or Schneppke. Even Driftlon appears more frequently in windy weather.
Niantic seems to have changed quite a bit about the weather. Depending on the weather conditions, significantly more Pokémon types that are boosted now appear.
Which Pokémon do I find when? Every weather condition causes different types of Pokémon to spawn more frequently. Here’s what you will find:
| Pokémon Type | Weather Condition |
| Poison, Fighting, Fairy | Cloudy |
| Ghost, Dark | Fog |
| Electric, Water, Bug | Rain |
| Grass, Ground, Fire | Sunny |
| Ice, Steel | Snow |
| Flying, Dragon, Psychic | Windy |
| Normal, Rock | Partly Cloudy |
What does this mean for players? Especially shiny hunters will benefit from this. If you still have snow in the game, you will find Schneppke more frequently. This Pokémon rarely appears otherwise. In windy weather, you often find Natu or Driftlon. All of these Pokémon can be shiny.
But you will also find Pokémon that are generally rather rare, like Loturzel or Panzaeron, on the right weather conditions. If your PokéDex is not yet full, you can change that with the right weather now.
Some shinies can also be included in the field research in February:
