In Pokémon GO the big Kanto Tour is coming soon. Now the developers have released more details on how the event will unfold.
Here’s what it’s about: The Kanto Tour is a special event in Pokémon GO that starts on February 20. The monsters of the 1st generation are in the spotlight – including their shiny versions. Among other things, 7 new shinies will come to Pokémon GO.
One of the shiny monsters is Mew, which you can obtain through a special research task. Niantic has now revealed that and some other details.
How to get Shiny Mew
This is how the special research works: If you decide to participate in the Kanto Tour with a ticket for 11.99 euros, you can expect a special research event. It focuses on Kanto Pokémon and also features a shiny Ditto. You will receive this once you have completed the special research.
Once you have completed the special research, you will unlock another series of tasks: The Masterwork Research. And it is quite a challenge. Among other things, you need to:
- Obtain the Platinum Kanto Medal
- Reach level 40
- Catch 30 Pokémon of all types
- Spin 151 different PokéStops
- Cover 151 kilometers
These may be quite tough hurdles for some players. But: At the end of the Masterwork Research, you will receive shiny Mew.
Schedule for the Kanto Tour
When does the Kanto Tour take place? The event on February 20 runs from 09:00 to 21:00 and is divided into several time blocks, each featuring different Pokémon. This is somewhat reminiscent of the habitats from GO Fest, except that only Kanto monsters are in focus here.
The blocks are assigned to locations from the original games. The active block will be indicated not only by the spawns but also by the game music: it will vary depending on the block and will be reminiscent of the original games. The schedule looks like this:
- 9 AM to 10 AM: Pallet Town
- 10 AM to 11 AM: Cerulean City
- 11 AM to 12 PM: Vermilion City
- 12 PM to 1 PM: Fuchsia City
- 1 PM to 2 PM: Pokémon League
- 2 PM to 3 PM: Pallet Town
- 3 PM to 4 PM: Cerulean City
- 4 PM to 5 PM: Vermilion City
- 5 PM to 6 PM: Fuchsia City
- 6 PM to 7 PM: Pokémon League
- 7 PM to 9 PM: Pokémon from all previous hours
Why the schedule is important: During the event, there will be a total of 10 collector challenges. 5 of them are also assigned to the locations, meaning:
- Pallet Town
- Cerulean City
- Vermilion City
- Fuchsia City
- Pokémon League
You will encounter the necessary monsters in the respective time periods.
In addition, there will be 5 more collector challenges that relate to your style of play. You will catch monsters through:
- Raid Battles
- Research
- Evolution
- Red (Trade) or Red (Incense)
- Green (Trade) or Green (Incense)
The two edition-specific tasks can only be solved to some extent alone. Depending on whether you choose Red or Green, you will have different spawns in the incense – and may need to trade monsters with other players.
