Currently, a birthday is being celebrated at Pokémon GO, and fittingly, there is a new artwork to admire. It features some exciting Pokémon. But is this a hint at a forthcoming release of the monsters?
What kind of artwork is this? Currently, the event for the fifth anniversary of Pokémon GO is taking place. Accordingly, there is much discussion on the Pokémon GO social media channels about the history of the game, while monsters like the anniversary Pikachu and Shiny Flampion are appearing on the map.
On Twitter, the official illustration for the 5th anniversary of Pokémon GO has now also been shared.
There are various contents visible that are already in the game or are expected to come. Among them are the Eevee evolution Feelinara, the upcoming GO Fest Pokémon Meloetta, and monsters like Viscora, Lucario, and of course Pikachu.
However, the image also shows some things that have not yet appeared or been announced in the game. You can see the illustration here:
Mega Mewtwo X and new starters – But a nearby release is not guaranteed
These are the most exciting Pokémon in the image: A striking feature at the top center of the image is definitely Mega Mewtwo X. The rare legendary Pokémon Mewtwo has two Mega Evolutions in the main series: the Y and X versions.
The X version shown in the image currently has the highest attack value of all Pokémon and is likely to become a sought-after target in Pokémon GO. After all, Mewtwo is already one of the absolute top attackers in Pokémon GO – its Mega Evolution would take it to the next level.
In addition to Mega Mewtwo X, there are also three Pokémon that you should recognize if you have played the seventh generation of Pokémon. For the image features the starter monsters from the Sun/Moon games:
- Bauz
- Flamiau
- Robball
Bauz is of the Grass & Flying type, Flamiau belongs to the Fire type, and Robball completes the trio as the Water starter.
Why one should wait with anticipation: Several trainers hope that due to the monsters in the birthday image, Mega Mewtwo and also the Gen-7 starters could soon arrive in the game. However, this is not certain, as some users in the Pokémon GO subreddit point out: “Before everyone loses their minds over Mega Mewtwo X, one should remember that both Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Lucario were on the poster for the 4th anniversary.”
Indeed, both Mega Lucario and the Y version of Mega Mewtwo are included in last year’s collage – and still have not made it into Pokémon GO. However, Generation 6 starters and generally Mega Evolutions are visible in the game that have already made it into Pokémon GO.
It is to be expected that eventually, all monsters in the image will be available in the game – but whether it will be sooner or later remains open for now.
For those who want to collect candies for a possible Mega Mewtwo, a chance will come soon: Mewtwo will replace Deoxys in raids and will also be encounterable at the GO Fest alongside other legendary bosses in raids. What else is happening this month can be seen in our event overview for July in Pokémon GO.
