In Pokémon GO the new season “Hidden Gems” starts on Thursday. Now there are first images that make the trainers puzzle. We at MeinMMO show you which new monsters the community suspects behind it.
Which season is it about? The current season of Rising Heroes is slowly coming to an end and will be replaced on June 1st by the new season called “Hidden Gems”. The contents expected for this have not yet been officially announced.
However, the developers published a teaser and a picture for the new season on their Twitter account on May 29, 2023, which caused some speculation in the community. Trainers believe they have discovered a hint for new monsters. We have summarized what they are below.
These hints does Niantic give for the new season
What does the teaser show? On the morning of May 29, the developers of Pokémon GO released an 18-second trailer for the new season on their Twitter account. They write (via twitter.com): “Discover what lies beneath the surface.” The video also bears the hashtag #HiddenGems, which reveals the name of the new season.
Initially, the video shows a wide sandy beach. The striking highlight is a bright red shovel stuck in the sand. After a Krabby crosses the frame, the camera pans, and we see a heap of pink and green shards. One of these shards is then picked up and examined closely by a woman. Next to Krabby, a Lucario can now be seen in the background.
Further hint for the new season: After the trainers made some initial assumptions due to the teaser for the new season, Niantic followed up with another image. This one shows a sandcastle surrounded by Marill, Shellder, Krabby, Clobbopus, and Wingull.
The tweet also carries the hashtag #HiddenGems, where the developers write (via twitter.com): “Watch your steps on the beach…”
This indicates that the theme in the coming months will revolve around the beach, sand, and water. Therefore, it is likely that you will encounter the corresponding monsters from this habitat.
However, based on experience, there will also be a debut of one or two Pokémon. Trainers believe they have already discovered hints about two new monsters and their evolutions.
Trainers suspect 4 new Pokémon for the season “Hidden Gems”
Possible release of Sankabuh: On social media, trainers are now speculating actively about the upcoming content of the new season. Many find the red shovel in the sand, which is prominently visible in the trailer, particularly striking.
This would fit perfectly with the Ghost and Ground-type Pokémon Sankabuh, which comes from the 7th generation of games. Sankabuh visually resembles a large pile of sand, with eyes and a giant hole as a mouth. It also carries a red shovel on its head.

It can also evolve into Colossand, which resembles a sandcastle in contrast to its pre-evolution. It has small towers on the sides that it can use as arms and is decorated with shells. The characteristic red shovel on its head can also be found on it. So the image with the sandcastle would fit for a release.
What else supports a release? In addition to the two hints in the tweets from Niantic, information about the sandpile Pokémon has also repeatedly been found in the game code in the past, which has not yet been used (via pokeminers.com). Therefore, some trainers are also finally speculating about a release in the comments.
However, they also have concerns. After the release of Ignivor, which was only very rarely found in eggs, they believe that Sankabuh will also be very difficult to obtain (via reddit.com):
- GeologicalOpera: “In my head, ‘Castles Made of Sand’ by Jimi Hendrix was playing, and now I imagine him meeting a Sankabuh.”
- landocalzonian: “Kingler is #2 of the water attackers without Crypto, and it looks like we are getting Sankabuh. But yes, aside from that, the spawns look pretty boring. I really miss the Dragon/Fairy event we had a few months ago…”
- DramaticPaint: “Can’t wait to not get Sandygast because it will only spawn on beaches”
- SredniEel: “I say it now: Sandygast will only be in eggs, and the hatching rate will be 0.0000000000001%.”
Trainers hope for a strong mysterious Pokémon
What Pokémon do trainers suspect? In addition to a release of Sankabuh, many trainers are also hoping for a debut of Diancie. This is a mysterious Rock and Fairy-type Pokémon from the 6th generation of games.
Many players have been waiting for it for a long time, as this Pokémon has a powerful Mega Evolution, which would rank among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
What supports Diancie? The trainers see the fitting hint in the colorful shards in the trailer for the new season. Especially the pink shards could hint at the crystals of the mysterious monster.
Diancie is a gray Pokémon that has a delicate upper body and a kind of stone as its lower body. It wears a white dress with a golden chain above. Its red eyes resemble diamonds, and it wears a kind of crown made of pink crystals on its head, which can also be found on its dress and lower body.

Even more noticeable are the pink diamonds in its Mega Evolution. In this form, the entire body is adorned with crystals. Trainers write in the comments on Reddit that this can only hint at a debut of Diancie:
- krispyboiz: “I think the gems have more to do with Diancie.”
- Dismembered_carrot: “The chances are good that it is Diancie.”
- MyFurbyHitMySack: “Diancie is making its debut. Remember my words.”
When would a release be conceivable? There are already speculations about a possible release of the mysterious monster. The popular GO Fest is also coming up in the new season, which is among the biggest events in Pokémon GO. Trainers can usually secure a mysterious Pokémon through a special research during this event.
For this reason, it seems likely to many players that it will be added to the game for this occasion. This is also the case for the Reddit user geoffh2016, who writes (via reddit.com): “Weren’t there speculations that the GO Fest would bring Diancie? It could fit the theme (sand/jewels).”
Whether and when the suspected Pokémon will come into the game and what content will also await you in the new season remains to be seen for the moment. However, as soon as there is new information on this, you will find out from us at MeinMMO.
