The events in Pokémon GO have been happening rapidly in the last few days. This pleases the trainers of the game. Because they all benefit from the recent changes in the game.
- First, there was reason to rejoice when on March 21, the guaranteed Evolution Stones such as King’s Rock or Dragon Scale were announced in the Update.
- Yesterday afternoon, Niantic announced that a Water Event is starting, which increases the chance of Water Pokémon.
- Surprisingly, trainers then found the first Shiny Pokémon in the game yesterday, which sparked a huge hype in the community.

Shiny Pokémon vs Spoofers – Not every trainer sees them
With the spoofers in mind, Niantic has built in some hurdles so that they cannot specifically hunt for Shiny Pokémon. An important point is that these Pokémon do not appear “the same” for every trainer. For example, if you find a Magikarp with a friend, it may be Shiny for you, but a regular Pokémon without special color for your friend.
What factors determine when a monster is displayed as Shiny, trainers all over the world are currently checking. Rumors say that Niantic has implemented this feature with a random factor so that Spoofers cannot teleport to every Shiny Pokémon and catch it.
Shiny Pokémon on the Map/Tracker
So far, it is not possible to distinguish between a Shiny and a regular Pokémon on the map or in the tracker. Whether it is a special monster only becomes clear when you are in the encounter screen where you can catch the monster.
Shiny Water Pokémon: Only Golden Magikarp and Red Gyarados Confirmed
So far, only Magikarp and Gyarados have been confirmed as Shiny Pokémon. There is currently no evidence of other Shinies. You will find a link to a summary table with all further Shinies further down in the article.
Shiny transforms into Ditto
If you find a Shiny Pokémon, you should first catch it before celebrating. It can still transform into Ditto and ruin your joy. Because it does not turn into a Shiny Ditto, but only a regular one.
Some sad trainers have already confirmed this, who were happy about their beautiful Magikarp, which then transformed into a “boring” Ditto without special appearance.
Shiny Stats and IV Values?
In Pokémon GO, there are currently no connections between improved stats and the Shiny Pokémon. This finding comes from the first Shiny captures and will be further investigated in the next few days.
Utilize Water Festival and catch Shiny Magikarp
In the coming days, the Water Festival in Pokémon GO is active, giving trainers an increased chance of many Water Pokémon. If you use Incense in the game and stay near rivers, lakes, or other water areas, the chance of encountering Magikarp is high. You should take advantage of the next days of the event to secure a special specimen of the fish.
The Shiny Gyarados is red and not dark
In Pokémon GO, the model of Gyarados has been revised, making it appear slightly darker. The difference becomes clear in the following comparison image. On the left is the revised normal Gyarados, and on the right is the Shiny variant.
Trainers speculated that the dark blue Gyarados was already a Shiny, but that was incorrect.
Transferring Shiny Pokémon
If you accidentally click on a Shiny specimen while cleaning up your collection and choose “send“, you will be shown a warning. This warning explicitly informs you that you are about to send a Shiny Pokémon. This way, Niantic prevents the accidental sending of these rare specimens and saves trainers a lot of frustration. So be careful about which Pokémon you want to sort out.
