In Pokémon GO trainers can find especially rare Shiny Pokémon. We show you which ones exist and how you can catch the Shinys.
Shiny Pokémon are rarely found in Pokémon GO. They are color-changed variants of “normal” monsters. For example, a Magikarp typically appears in its natural red color in the wild or in raids. The Shiny variant, on the other hand, makes Magikarp shine in golden color and is significantly rarer.
In this overview, we show you where you can find the different Shiny monsters in Pokémon GO. Some can be obtained from eggs, others from raids, and some even in the wild.
Pokémon GO – Shinys from Gen1, Gen2, Gen3
The shiny Pokémon are popular among trainers. Their rarity makes them something special in every Pokémon collection. In the following table, we list the known Shiny Pokémon and show where you can currently catch them.

- Community Day 7 – Shiny Squirtle family, Shiny Sunglasses Squirtle family
- Community Day 8 – Shiny Eevee family
- Community Day 9 – Shiny Chikorita family
- Community Day 10 – Shiny Beldum family

The development of Shinys
At the start of Pokémon GO in 2016, these shiny monsters did not exist yet. The first ones made their appearance during the water event in March 2017. Magikarp was the first to appear, shining in golden color in the game.
When a Shiny Pokémon evolves, its evolution will also be a Shiny. So, there were the first Shiny Gyarados alongside Magikarp. The developers have since added many more Shiny monsters to the game over the past few months. This includes the Pikachu family and Pokémon from the 3rd generation.
We expect more additional Shiny monsters in the game in the coming months. The 1st Community Day already showed that these events are suitable for an increased chance of Shinys.
