Currently on the smartphone phenomenon Pokémon GO , there are disturbances on 16.7. The servers are offline, and logging into the game doesn’t work.
Update 19.1.: Also on Tuesday, the 19.7., there are again server problems with Pokémon Go. Germany is affected. Not everyone is affected, but still many users are stuck at the login or the app is not loading properly: This is indicated by the endlessly spinning Pokéball in the top left corner.
Pokémon GO is currently unreachable in Europe. An overload seems to be causing a massive disruption of the game. It could be a crash.
As Focus Online reports, there are increasing reports of disturbances with the Pokémon GO app. Players are also complaining in Germany about login difficulties. The app is not functional. There have also been problems with GPS tracking since the afternoon.
The server down for Pokémon GO comes with the message “Authentication failed.”
Server too small? Are the disturbances due to the 26 new countries where Pokémon GO launched today?
At the gaming site playnation, they believe it may be because Pokémon Go launched today, on 16.7., in additional countries in Europe, and the servers simply can’t handle the influx. The 26 new countries where Pokémon GO is playable from today are: Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Greece, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Romania, and Norway.
We will keep you updated should there be new information.
Could a DDOS attack be responsible for the crash of the servers of Pokémon GO?
Update 16:50: As often happens when problems of such magnitude arise, so-called “hacker groups” also report and claim at least indirectly to be behind the problems. A group is also claiming responsibility for the server issues of Pokémon GO with “DDOS” attacks.
At least that’s what a Twitter account, attributed to this group, reports. About two hours ago, around 14:55, when the problems started, they tweeted “PokémonGO Offline with hashtags. Such messages are usually sent by these groups when they want to indicate: Here! We! Look at us, it was us! Cool, right?
Since these people seek attention, we will not name this group here. As long as the developers themselves don’t say: Yes, it was a DDOS, such “confessions” should be treated with caution.
Update 18:50: It seems that the problems have subsided and that one can start again. Good hunting out there and remember: Keep your eyes open, not just staring at your phone, pay attention to your safety and that of others.
Update 19:39: Server errors are reappearing.
