In Pokémon GO, you will soon be able to obtain the golden bottle cap for the first time. However, it seems that this cannot be used on a certain type of Pokémon.
What is the golden bottle cap? Recently, the golden bottle cap and the accompanying Super Special Training for Pokémon GO were announced. This allows you to increase the stats of a Pokémon.
You can obtain it for the first time in the GO-Pass-Deluxe during the event “Ancient Legacy.” However, you will need to opt for the paid version of the pass, which has already caused frustration in the community.
A new leak now suggests that you cannot use the item on a certain type of Pokémon at all. An official Niantic source also supports this theory.

What kind of restriction is this? In a recent post on Reddit, various texts are shown that originate from data mining of Pokémon GO. These are leaks that players have found while searching through the game’s files, even if they are not yet actively found in the game itself.
One of the found texts reads, “Shadow Pokémon cannot undergo Hyper Training,” which translates to “Crypto-Pokémon cannot undergo Super Special Training.” This leads to the assumption that Crypto-Pokémon are excluded from the new feature.
What does Pokémon GO say about it? So far, there has been neither an official confirmation nor a denial in the Pokémon GO blog regarding whether Crypto-Pokémon can undergo Super Special Training. However, in the Help Center of Pokémon GO, the following passage can also be found:
“Crypto-Pokémon and Pokémon that already have a 4-star rating cannot undergo Super Special Training.”
Since this is an official page from Niantic, it can be assumed that the leak is correct and the golden bottle cap cannot be used on Crypto-Pokémon.
What does the community say about it? The text of the leak causes frustration in the community, as many Pokémon are excluded from using the item. Some comments under the post on Reddit include:

- “That was the only reason I had even considered buying this pass. Good thing I read this thread and can save the money instead of having an unpleasant surprise when I want to use it,” replies FiveSuitSamus to the previous comment
- “To be fair, the Pokémon GO team should mention this restriction in the blog post when they introduce it,” writes TheRealHankWolfman
