In Pokémon GO you can expect a new research breakthrough in July that brings you the Pokémon Slurp. We at MeinMMO will show you what kind of monster it is, whether it’s worth it, and how the community feels about the new research breakthrough.
What is a research breakthrough? In Pokémon GO, you have the opportunity to receive field research tasks by spinning at the PokéStop. These are monthly changing tasks through which you can receive daily rewards, such as items or encounters with Pokémon.
For each day you complete at least one of the quests, you will receive a corresponding stamp in the “Field” view, above the tasks. Once you have collected 7 stamps, you will receive a research breakthrough and can look forward to another reward in the form of an encounter with a selected Pokémon. In July, Slurp will be waiting for you in the research breakthrough.
Research breakthrough with Slurp – Duration and Shiny
How long is Slurp in the research breakthrough? The research breakthrough changes monthly. For this reason, you can catch Slurp from July 1, 2022, at 10:00 PM local time until August 1, 2022, at 10:00 PM local time. Before that, you can expect the Steel Pokémon Klikk in the research breakthrough for June until July 1, 2022.
What kind of Pokémon is Slurp? Slurp is a Normal-type Pokémon from the first generation. With the help of 100 candies and a Sinnoh Stone, you can evolve it into Slurpuff. You can recognize Slurp by its strong pink body and long tongue.
Besides the research breakthrough in July, you can occasionally encounter Slurp in field or special research tasks as well as find it in the wild during partly cloudy weather. Occasionally, you can also challenge it in raids.
Can you catch Shiny Slurp? Yes, with a bit of luck, you may encounter a shiny Slurp. This differs from the normal form by a gold-yellow body.
Is the research breakthrough with Slurp worth it?
How strong is it: Slurp can especially impress with its stamina values. Its attack and defense are not so good. Its evolution Slurpuff is slightly better here and can take a bit more in battle than Slurp.
For use in raids, neither of the two Pokémon is suitable, so you should rather rely on the best attackers in Pokémon GO. However, the situation is different in the GO Battle League.
Especially in the Super League, Slurp can really score with a move combination of Lick, Body Slam, and Grass Knot. In the Ultra League, Slurpuff is among the very best with a moveset of Lick, Body Slam, and Shadow Ball (via pvpoke.com).
However, please note that Body Slam is an event move. Currently, you can only learn it for both Slurp and Slurpuff with the help of a Charged TM.
Is Slurp worth it? Slurp is particularly worthwhile for trainers still searching for a strong attacker in the GO Battle League.
However, those who already have a strong Slurp or Slurpuff can at least secure a few additional candies, which is why you should definitely take advantage of the research breakthrough. And shiny hunters can also look forward to a shiny Slurp with a bit of luck.
Slurp causes divided opinions in the community
In the reddit community, there is currently lively discussion about the announced contents and events for July. And Slurp is also a topic here, sparking very different opinions among trainers. You can find both positive and negative feedback on the planned research breakthrough (via reddit.com):
- NervousLittleSheep: “Who always picks these field research Pokémon? I could stand no more legendary ones if they didn’t keep picking such mediocre [Pokémon] like Klikk and Slurp. Well, at least Slurp has a nice Shiny.”
- spoofrice11: “Doesn’t look that exciting… We’ve gone from legendary to rare Pokémon to Slurp in the weekly reward boxes. They might as well get rid of those.”
- NaeKidsNaeProbs: “Slurp for the breakthrough? Really? Lol. You might as well give us a Zubat or something.”
- josh123z: “Slurp is a rare Pokémon, at least for me. I’ve found 2 of them in the 2 years I’ve been playing.”
- Stogoe: “Honestly, Slurp is one of the strongest Pokémon for PvP, and the IVs of a research Slurp aren’t that bad.”
- BigThomsd: “I’m kind of excited about Slurp as a breakthrough. I still need the Shiny.”
But why are the reactions so different? The feedback from trainers largely depends on how long each player has been involved with Pokémon GO. In the past, there have always been events where Slurp could also be found on a larger scale.
Therefore, those who have been around longer have had many more opportunities to encounter this Pokémon and obtain a strong and/or shiny specimen. Additionally, Slurp and its evolution are particularly interesting for trainers who are also active in the GO Battle League.
What do you think about the research breakthrough with Slurp in July? Are you excited about the Pokémon? Are you hoping for a Shiny? Or have you had enough of the monster and were hoping for a better Pokémon? Feel free to share your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments.
