In Pokémon GO, the big GO Fest 2023 starts tomorrow, but just before the start, the developers made an important change that is upsetting the attendees of the live GO Fests on site. There will be one highlight that they will not have. We have summarized what it is here on MeinMMO.
What change is it about? This weekend the big global GO Fest is taking place, one of the largest Pokémon GO events of the year. For weeks, trainers have been looking forward to this event with its numerous highlights and have even bought a special ticket for about 15 euros, which promises additional bonuses.
But just before the start, the developers surprise with a notice on their official X account (formerly Twitter), which was completely unknown to the trainers and is now causing a lot of trouble.
On the evening of August 24, Niantic wrote there (via twitter.com): Trainers who participated in one of the Pokémon GO Fest live events in New York, London, or Osaka, please note that they will receive Diancie candies and no additional Diancie encounter at the Pokémon GO Fest 2023 Global.
That’s why the announcement is causing a lot of trouble now
Poor communication from the developers: In social networks and on their blog, the developers of Pokémon GO have diligently promoted their GO Fest events and the corresponding tickets in recent months.
Especially the release of Diancie and its Mega Evolution has been highlighted and is a real highlight for many trainers. The monster is among the best attackers in Pokémon GO in its Mega form.
However, until now, there was not a single mention of the restriction that trainers who do not only buy a ticket for the global event but also attend one of the live events will only receive one encounter with the mysterious Pokémon.
Ticket description still does not indicate: Even today, on Friday, the ticket description for the GO Fest Ticket: Global in the in-game shop still contains the following information: “This special research leads to an exclusive encounter with the mysterious Pokémon Diancie!” No restriction is noted here either. And this is now really angering many trainers.

Trainers complain: “Niantic has advertised this as part of the ticket for months”
Trainers feel cheated: In social networks, the Pokémon GO post immediately caused a huge uproar among most trainers. Many feel cheated based on the previously erroneous information, as they had only purchased the ticket because of the additional encounter with Diancie.
From their perspective, such an important piece of information is dismissed by the developers as a well-meaning suggestion just days before the event starts, as if this information had been known for weeks and communicated transparently.
Among others, the largest German-speaking Pokémon GO YouTuber, Spieletrend, commented under Niantic’s post as follows (via twitter.com): What does “keep in mind” mean? This is a brand-new piece of information that you only released weeks after the tickets were sold. Last year, you distributed Shaymin as if it was nothing. Quite fraudulent behavior, if you ask me, but what else is new.
Lack of understanding due to previous events: There’s also a lot of confusion, as last year trainers were also able to secure the mysterious Pokémon Shaymin at the live events and the worldwide GO Fest. Therefore, it is not understandable for many players why this should not be possible with Diancie. The uproar is also great in the Reddit community (via reddit.com):

Pretty lame that they announce this only now. There was no way anyone should have assumed this if it wasn’t explicitly in the event details, and Shaymin was handled differently last year. I was in NYC, and one of the main reasons was to get a second one to transfer it to Home, as it’s the last one missing for me there.

People saying: ‘That’s always how it is’ or ‘Shaymin was an exception’ or ‘I expected this’, let’s not ignore that it is clearly stated on the website that ticket holders can encounter Diancie. And on the ticket, which is still in store, it states that purchasing the GO Fest Global Ticket grants access to special research leading to an encounter with Diancie. People can talk about ‘how it always is’, that Shaymin is an exception or ‘exactly what I expected’ etc., but Niantic has promoted this as part of the ticket for months and only clarifies it 2 days prior when most tickets will be sold, especially given the early purchase incentives.

Not surprised, but still extremely lame, considering several Shaymin last year. Had a friend with 4 Shaymin. Boo Niantic, that’s no way to get fans.
Counterpoints to the decision: However, there are also a number of trainers who had already feared this measure and therefore cannot understand why other players really believed they could get a second Diancie.
The Reddit user JibaNOTHERE2, on the other hand, believes that this decision was not made by the developers themselves but rather by the Pokémon Company. He writes (via reddit.com): This is probably more a decision of TPC than Niantic since Shaymin was handled differently. Diancie is also a much rarer mysterious being in the main series. I just wish this had been announced.
Is there no Diancie left now?
Those who bought a ticket for the global event and did not attend one of the live events can still look forward to an encounter with Diancie. The change only affects trainers who have already received a corresponding research on Diancie.
Whether Niantic will take a step back due to the poor communication and also gift the affected trainers another encounter with Diancie is not foreseeable at this time.
