When is the event? On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the event takes place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Here you have the opportunity to challenge the powerful attacker in Mega Raids.
What kind of Pokémon is this? Mega-Rayquaza is one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO. The monster has the types Dragon and Flying.
Raid Day with Mega-Rayquaza – Content and Tips
What bonuses are available during the event? The following bonuses are active in the game during the short event:
- increased chance of Shiny-Rayquaza after raids
- up to 5 free raid passes at gyms
- Remote raid limit increased to 20 (from October 18, 2025, at 2:00 AM until October 19, 2025, at 5:00 AM)
- limited research, where you can receive a meteorite
What bonuses are included in the event ticket? For €5.49, you can also purchase an event ticket. Here you will receive the following additional bonuses:
- up to 8 additional raid passes through gyms
- increased chance to receive XL candy from raid battles
- 50% more experience points from raids
- double the amount of stardust from raids
How do I get Mega-Metagross? To obtain Mega-Rayquaza, you must fulfill three requirements. First, you need a Rayquaza. It must have the charge move Dragon Ascent, which the monster learns through the item meteorite. You can obtain a meteorite on raid day through the limited research.
Lastly, you need 400 Mega Energy for Rayquaza. You receive this for each raid in which you successfully defeat a Mega-Rayquaza. The amount of energy depends on the speed at which you completed the raid. Once you have triggered the Mega Evolution for the first time, you can do it later for significantly less energy or even without any, depending on how long you wait.
What counters should I use? Due to its type combination, Rayquaza has a weakness to attacks from the types Rock, Dragon, and Fairy, as well as a double weakness to Ice-type attacks. Such attackers belong to the best counters against Mega-Rayquaza.
If you have all good counter Pokémon at a high level, you can successfully complete the battle with just 3 trainers. To be safe or to be able to complete the raids faster, bring along additional trainers.
What Mega Evolution is suitable for the event? If you have the appropriate Mega Evolution and activate it for the raids, you will receive additional experience points, regular candies, and an increased chance for XL candies. You do not need to have the evolution in your team. It just needs to be activated.
To benefit from the bonuses, you must have a Dragon or Flying-type Mega Evolution activated. The following monsters are suitable:
- Mega-Charizard X
- Mega-Charizard Y
- Mega-Pidgeot
- Mega-Pinsir
- Mega-Aerodactyl
- Mega-Ampharos
- Mega-Grovyle
- Mega-Altaria
- Mega-Dragonite
- Mega-Latios
- Mega-Latias
- Mega-Rayquaza
- Mega-Krookodile
Which buddy Pokémon are suitable? There are Pokémon where you have to fulfill a certain requirement for evolution while having the monster as a buddy.
The following monsters have a condition under which you can make progress during the Mega Raids with Rayquaza:
- Hisui-Basculin to Myriam (win 10 raids)
- Galar-Bagon to Oghnatoll (win 10 raids)
- Venonat to Agoyon (catch 20 Dragon-type Pokémon)
How do I proceed during the event? Once you have stocked up on strong counters, you should proceed on the raid day as follows:
- visit a gym
- defeat Mega-Rayquaza
- spin the gym disc to receive a new raid pass
- go to the next gym
You can only receive a new raid pass if you have used the current one in your inventory.
