In Pokémon GO the great Raid Day with Gengar and Nidorino starts today, on March 1st. We provide an overview of counters, times, and shinies.
What is a Raid Day? During this event, a raid appears at every gym for 3 hours. You have 3 hours to complete the raids.
This time, the focus is on Gengar and Nidorino wearing party hats, which you can encounter in the raids for 3 hours. This event is part of the celebrations for Pokémon Day.
Raid Day with Gengar and Nidorino – Times and Info
When: On Sunday, March 1st, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time
Pokémon of the Day: Nidorino and Gengar with party hats
Bonus: Both Pokémon are also available as shiny
Bonus: 5 free raid passes are available
Bonus: During the 3 hours, Gengar can learn the moves Lick and Psyshock
This is how to get the free passes: During the 3 hours, you can earn 5 additional raid passes. With your normal daily pass, that’s a total of 6 free passes.
However, you do not receive them all at once. Only after a pass is used will you receive the next raid pass. So, you must complete 5 raids within the 3 hours to get all the passes.
Shiny Nidorino and Gengar
Will there be shiny versions? Both Pokémon are already available as shiny, but not yet with a party hat. You can obtain them for the first time as shiny with a party hat.
What is the chance of getting a shiny? In previous raid days, the shiny chance was always about 1 in 10. This is likely the case here as well, but it is not confirmed yet.
Are Nidorino and Gengar Raids worth it?
Are Nidorino raids good? The raids are especially interesting for shiny hunters. It is not yet known if Nidorino can be evolved further, but even then it is not relevant for the meta. It is sufficient to secure one with a hat and otherwise focus on Gengar.
Are Gengar raids good? Gengar is one of the best ghost attackers in the game, but it is still surpassed by Giratina and Dragapult. So, it is a boost for your team, but not absolutely necessary.
The moves Lick and Psyshock are not really an improvement. The best moveset is Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball, and Gengar can also learn that outside of raid day.

How many players are needed for the raids? This is not yet quite clear, as the level of the raids is not yet known. But normally, you should be able to complete both raids with 2-3 players.
To move quickly, we recommend a group size of 4 to 5 trainers.
A demand from trainers has become louder for the current event:
