In Pokémon GO you could secure the 1-Coin Box every week in recent months. But now it has suddenly disappeared. We at MeinMMO will show you how the trainers are reacting to the loss and want to know your opinion on the matter.
Which box is it about? With the restrictions surrounding the Corona pandemic, Niantic introduced a so-called weekly box in recent years. This was always available in the in-game shop on Mondays from 06:00 local time and provided you with helpful items for the game.
This was intended to allow trainers to continue playing, even if they were unable to leave their homes due to quarantine or restrictions.
But now the box has suddenly disappeared. We will show you what speculations exist regarding its disappearance and how the trainers are responding.
At the end of the article, there is also a survey where we want to know your opinion on this topic.
Possible reasons for the disappearance of the weekly box
What happened to the box? Normally, the Pokéminers, a group of dataminers, provide an initial glimpse of what items trainers can expect in the next weekly box by Sunday evening. But on August 28 came the big surprise – the box is gone.
As the Pokéminers reported on their Twitter account, there will be no new 1-Coin Box in the week from August 29 to September 4. It simply vanished suddenly, without any prior announcement from the developers.
But some trainers have an idea of what might have led to this decision and even suspect that it is related to the events of the last few weeks.
What happened in the last weeks? While the weekly box used to contain the popular Remote Raid Passes for a long time, Niantic changed the contents of the 1-Coin Box in May of this year. Trainers should now be more motivated to go outside again.
For this reason the Remote Raid Passes became more expensive and eventually disappeared from the weekly box. Instead, items like balls, incense, lucky eggs, incubators, or lure modules were introduced, changing weekly.
Niantic seemed to be experimenting here, as the box became increasingly smaller. While trainers initially received at least 3 items for one Poké Coin, in recent weeks it was only one item each time. This led to significant criticism from trainers, many of whom demanded the return of the Remote Raid Passes.
Additionally, some stated that they would no longer buy the boxes, leading to speculation that sales figures were systematically declining. This could be another reason for the possible discontinuation of the box.
The majority of trainers find the decision right
That Niantic needs to change something about the weekly boxes was clear to many trainers. The few items that were available in recent weeks were considered very uninteresting by a large part of the reddit community, which is why they hardly bought the boxes anymore.
For these players, it was not surprising that Pokémon GO is now making this decision and no longer offers the box for purchase. This is evident in the comments on reddit. However, some trainers are now also hoping for an improvement of the daily boxes or research breakthroughs (via reddit.com):
- oceano7: “I’m surprised they pulled the plug before the season was even over. Let’s see what they announce today or tomorrow.”
- NewFaceHalcyon: “No one bought them, that’s why.”
- OkKaleidoscope4433: “Honestly, it was only a matter of time. Now it’s time to either overhaul the daily boxes for EVERYONE. And equip them with upgrades or premium items. Or even, and this may be more understandable from Niantic’s perspective, to significantly improve the rewards for research breakthroughs. At least this requires a certain (even minimal) effort and is technically still ‘weekly or 7-day’ and should yield far better resources than is currently the case.”
- CL-Doviculus: “I somehow hope they skip the weekly box and make the daily boxes useful again… but this time for everyone.”
Would a change in rewards be conceivable? Trainers have been wishing for the research breakthrough and daily boxes to become more interesting again for some time now.
In the research breakthrough a few years ago, legendary Pokémon could still be found, which were then replaced by other, less interesting encounters.
And even in the daily rewards, trainers mostly find only balls, berries, or potions that they already have plenty of. However, trainers had luck in the past as well and were able to receive better rewards with the help of a trick.
A general change would make these boxes more interesting and trainers would not have to rely on tricks or luck to get better items. However, Niantic has made less effort in recent months to implement new content or bring back the coveted legendary creatures.
Whether the developers will comply with the trainers’ wishes in this case remains to be seen.
Positive feedback on the weekly box
But there is not only criticism of the weekly box. Some trainers found the lure modules very helpful and took them due to the low price. These players find it regrettable that the box has now disappeared.
Even the reddit user Masterjason13 defends the box and writes on reddit: “Most of them were a good deal. Yes, the Remote Raid Passes were much better, but it’s not like it was 1 Pokéball for 1 coin or something like that.”
Your opinion on the disappearance of the box is requested
As you can see, opinions on the 1-Coin Box in the community are widely divided. While some found the box completely uninteresting and thus stopped buying it, others thought it was a good deal and did not miss it.
Now we would like to know from you how you feel about the discontinuation of the weekly box and whether you would like it back. Please feel free to participate anonymously in our following survey:
Whether Niantic will bring back the weekly boxes or if they will remain permanently banned from the game remains to be seen. If there is a statement from the developers on this, you will find it here with us on MeinMMO.
