The Johto Event in Pokémon GO has started, and it offers a variety of tasks and even a surprise for trainers. We show you Shinies, quests, and raid bosses.
How long does the event run? The Johto Event runs from today, January 24, at 10:00 AM, until Sunday, January 31, at 8:00 PM. You have only a few days to secure the bonuses and Pokémon.
During the event, everything revolves around the 2nd generation of Pokémon. Some details were announced in advance, but there were also surprises.
Special Research on Ho-Oh, Quests, and Shinies
What is surprising about the event? While many Pokémon and quests were announced beforehand, there was a surprising special research on Ho-Oh.
This runs from today at 10:00 AM until February 7 at 8:00 PM. Through this special research, which deals with Team GO Rocket, you can catch a Ho-Oh with the move Earthquake.
Johto Celebration Event (1/2)
- Catch 15 Dark-type Pokémon – 5 Super Balls
- Catch 15 Shadow Pokémon – 5 Revives
- Defeat a Team GO Rocket leader 3 times – Encounter with Larvitar
- Rewards: 15 Poké Balls, 1 Incense, 5,000 XP
Johto Celebration Event (2/2)
- Defeat Team GO Rocket leader Arlo – 2 Max Revives
- Defeat Team GO Rocket leader Cliff – 3 Hyper Potions
- Defeat Team GO Rocket leader Sierra – 2 Max Potions
- Reward: Encounter with Ho-Oh
These are the quests: In addition to Ho-Oh, there are 4 new field research tasks in the game. We show you the rewards:
- Use 2 berries while catching Pokémon
- Encounter with Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile
- Take a snapshot with your buddy
- Encounter with Hoppip or Electrike
- Catch 5 Grass-type Pokémon
- Encounter with Sudowoodo
- Use 7 berries while catching Pokémon
- Encounter with Miltank or Stardust
Additionally, there is again a Johto Collector Challenge. For this, you need to catch the following Pokémon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Sudowoodo, Sunkern, Murkrow, Delibird, Miltank, and Larvitar.
The reward is 15 Poké Balls, 10 Ultra Balls, and 1 Incense.
Are there new Shinies? Yes, a new Shiny was announced with Miltank, which is blue instead of pink. According to reddit, however, the chance for it is not increased, unlike with Stunfisk in the Hoenn event.

These are the new bosses: There are again new raid bosses in Pokémon GO. Most of them come from the 2nd generation. The Pokémon with one star can be encountered as Shiny:
