The new quest feature in Pokémon GO gives many trainers an incentive to go outside and play daily. Officially, you are helping Professor Willow, who conducts research on strange things happening around the world. This is probably linked to the Pokémon Mew.
Since the announcement of the quests, more and more information has emerged. For this reason, we will regularly update and keep our guide current for you.

How do quests work? How do you get quests?
Quests are divided into two different categories: field research and special research. You receive them from PokéStops or directly from Professor Willow. These quests are voluntary and reward you with cool items, experience points, or even legendary Pokémon.
You will find the symbol for the quests at the bottom right, above the “Nearby” display. There used to be the weather symbol, which has now been moved up. The research/quests are symbolized by a telescope.
Field Research Quests in Pokémon GO
Trainers receive the tasks for field research by spinning PokéStops. As of now, you can have up to three tasks active simultaneously. If a task does not suit you or for other reasons you do not want to complete it, there is a trash can symbol in the task overview that allows you to delete the quest.
If you manage to complete a task, you will receive a stamp for it. These stamps are limited to a maximum of one per day. You can complete an unlimited number of quests in one day, but you will only receive one stamp daily.
If you earn the seventh stamp, a research breakthrough is imminent. These are quests that promise “better” rewards. For example, there is the possibility of encountering a legendary Pokémon like Zapdos.
The tasks vary and are partly based on the experience of the trainers. Some are only available if you reach a specific level or earn a certain medal.
Special Research Quests in Pokémon GO
You receive the special research from Professor Willow. These tasks are related to a story and are intended to take you on adventures where exciting discoveries await.
By completing these special research tasks, you progress further in the Pokémon GO story and will likely have the chance for a mystical encounter with Mew. The further you are in the story, the more difficult the challenges will become.
Unlike field research, it seems you cannot delete special research tasks individually. The trash can symbol that we could find in the other quests is missing for these tasks. This is likely to protect trainers from accidentally deleting one of these important tasks that could lead to a mysterious discovery.
Some of the tasks will be tied to the trainers’ level or medals, unlocking them as a result.
According to the Japanese Pokémon GO website, the quest for the mystical encounter can only be completed once per account. How it continues afterward is currently speculation within the community. It is believed that this quest enables the encounter with Mew and that the monster can then be found in the wild or during special encounters. This will become evident when the first players make this discovery. Mew is now also available in its shiny form in the code of Pokémon GO
Catching Mew – A Mysterious Task
In the special research, Professor Willow tasks you with various assignments. From catching Pokémon to raid battles, there’s plenty of variety.
The mysterious task is divided into 8 phases. Each presents you with challenges that are then rewarded with experience points and useful items. Upon completion of this test, you will receive the mystical Pokémon Mew. We will explain in detail how this works and what tasks you will face in the following guide:

All Quests in Pokémon GO – What tasks are available?
Datamining has already revealed 16 tasks that can be presented to you as quest challenges. The following list is related to the new quests; some requirements are still unclear.
- Catching Pokémon
- Spinning PokéStops
- Hatching Eggs
- Completing Gym Battles
- Completing Raid Battles
- Completing Quests
- Transferring Pokémon
- Favoriting Pokémon
- Completing Automatically
- Using a Berry during an encounter
- Upgrading Pokémon
- Evolving Pokémon
- Landing a throw with a ball
- Earn candy with a buddy Pokémon
- Increasing Badge ranks
- Leveling up players
Some of the tasks cannot be completed by all players. For example, trainers at level 40 can no longer level up. It is speculated that trainers will only receive tasks that they can complete. Otherwise, you simply delete the corresponding task and get another one.
