February is big in Pokémon GO! Various events are bringing new Pokémon like Fleknoil, Boreos and Mamolida. In addition, there are 4 new Shinies.
Niantic announced: The developers presented almost all events that await us this month. This also includes two new events, a raid day, and a new raid boss.
We provide you with an overview of all the new Pokémon and the events that await you.
Giovanni brings Shiny Raikou
Here’s what’s next with Giovanni: In February, the next special research with Giovanni is ready. Those who solve this can challenge the Rocket boss at the end and catch a Shadow Raikou upon victory.
When does the special research start? If you have already completed the last special research with Giovanni in January, you can already start the new research since midnight.
Alternatively, you must first complete the last special research before receiving the new tasks. If you encounter Giovanni through the last research, he will also have Raikou. Lavados is now history and was only available in January.
New research breakthrough with Fleknoil
What’s new: If you claim your research breakthrough in February, you will encounter the new Pokémon Fleknoil. This will be available for the entire February in the breakthrough. In addition to Fleknoil, you will also receive Fleknoil candies in the breakthrough.
However, this will not start until tonight at 10 PM. So anyone who can claim their breakthrough today will still encounter Lapras until 10 PM .
What is Fleknoil? The Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon resembles Zubat a bit. If you have enough candies, it evolves into Fletiamo.
New Pokémon Boreos appears in raids
When is Boreos coming? The legendary Pokémon will directly replace Heatran and will appear from February 4 at 10 PM. You can battle it for almost a month, as it will not disappear until February 25 at 10 PM.
What’s special about Boreos: The legendary Pokémon has two forms. Initially, it will most likely appear in its Avatar form. However, there is also the Incarnation form, which has different stats.
How good is Boreos? The Pokémon is a Flying type and is among the best attackers. A detailed analysis will follow soon on MeinMMO.
How to counter Boreos? The Pokémon is weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock types. We will soon publish the best counters against Boreos.
Sinnoh event brings Shiny Riolu
Then the event starts: This event lasts only over a weekend. From February 7 at 8 AM local time until February 10 at 10 AM local time, the bonuses are active.
What’s in the Sinnoh event? The focus here is primarily on hatching eggs. So there are the following bonuses:
- In 7 km eggs, you’ll find exclusively Sinnoh Pokémon like Knospi, Wadribie, Bronzel, Kaumalat, Riolu, Hippopotas, and Mantirps
- There are special field researches that feature Sinnoh Pokémon and stones
- Shiny Riolu and Shiny Hippopotas will be available in Pokémon GO for the first time
How good will the event be? This weekend, you will have to walk a lot and hatch eggs. The two new Shinies will likely remain pretty rare in the future. Especially Riolu is generally rare in the eggs. As a shiny, it should be even rarer.
However, Kaumalat in the eggs could also be interesting. It remains to be seen, whether it will remain as rare as in the 10 km eggs, but if not, there are good chances for a shiny.
The field researches for this event have already been leaked. It seems that the spawns in the wild are also altered. After all, for example, you have to catch the Gen 4 starters, which are otherwise rarer without an increase.
Valentine’s Day brings Shiny Chaneira and Raid Day
Then the event starts: This event also lasts only a weekend and starts on February 14 at 8 AM local time. The bonuses will be available until February 17 at 10 AM local time.
What’s in the event? Of course, it all revolves around the pink Pokémon. Therefore, there are the following bonuses:
- Rose Pokémon will be more commonly found in the wild, in eggs, in raids, and in quests
- Ohrdoch and Mamolida will appear for the first time in Pokémon GO
- Regular lure modules will be active for 6 hours during the event
- Double candies when catching Pokémon
- Shiny Wonneira will hatch from eggs and Shiny Chaneira will appear in the wild
What is known about the spawns: The field researches have also been leaked. It seems that there will be more spawns in the wild, including Flegmon, Hoppspross, Liebiskus, and Flurmel. More spawns are possible.
Raid Day with Shiny Schlurp
During the Valentine’s Day event, there will also be a raid day with Schlurp. This will run on February 15 from 2 PM to 5 PM.
In the 3 hours, you will encounter a Schlurp raid at each gym. The Schlurp can also appear as a shiny.
This bonus is available: During the event, you can receive up to 5 free raid passes. So, together with your daily pass, you can participate in a total of 6 free raids of Schlurp.
Additionally, Schlurp will know the charge move Body Slam. This will be available as an exclusive attack.
Friendship weekend with more gifts
Then the event starts: On the last full weekend in February, there will also be an event. From February 21 at 8 AM local time until February 24 at 10 AM local time, bonuses around the friendship level will be active.
What does the event bring? Everything related to your friends is boosted. So over the weekend, there will be the following bonuses:
- Friendship levels increase faster
- Pokémon yield double candies when traded
- Trading Pokémon is half as expensive
- Per day, you can open 40 gifts
- You can hold 20 gifts at once
This is still unclear: Currently, it is not known how fast the friendship levels will increase during the event. However, if you want to level up quickly with your friends, then you should make use of the full days.
So even on Monday, when the event ends at 10 AM, you should have opened the maximum number of gifts beforehand.
Pokémon GO tests two new events
This is the spotlight hour: During this event, everything will revolve around one Pokémon for an hour. The monster is not yet known and is said to be a surprise according to Niantic.
On February 4 between 6 PM and 7 PM, this bonus will be active. It remains to be seen whether Niantic will announce the Pokémon by then or if it will only be revealed at the start of the event.
This is the wonder bonus hour: On February 6 between 6 PM and 7 PM, Niantic will try the wonder bonus hour. During this event, there will be a wonderful bonus for one hour.
This bonus is also not known yet and is set to be a surprise.
Niantic makes it clear that these two events are intended to be preliminary tests. However, these events may then occur weekly, just like the raid hour.
