In Pokémon GO, Shiny Corasonn is set to be released soon as part of a new event. However, the release will likely take a bit longer.
What is it about? Pokémon GO announced an event called “Pokémon Air Adventures” back in June, which was supposed to start on July 22. As part of this event, two special Pokémon were to be released.
- The shiny form of Corasonn
- A new summer Pikachu
The special thing about it: Both monsters are limited to certain regions. Corasonn is generally a regional Pokémon that can be found near the equator – such as in South Florida, Latin America, South Asia, Northern Australia, or the Canary Islands.
The special Pikachu wearing an “Okinawa Kariyushi Shirt” is said to be catchable in Okinawa, Japan. It is expected to appear there for a year – according to the announcement, so that trainers have time to catch it once travel is possible again (via Pokémon GO Live). Generally, the “Air Adventures” initiative is said to be “launched to create wonderful travel memories. We hope this rekindles the joy of traveling for many people once travel is possible again,” states the original announcement.
Postponed indefinitely
What is changing now: As announced on Twitter, the “Air Adventures” initiative and thus the release of Shiny Corasonn and Okinawa Shirt Pikachu has been put on hold for the time being.
“Due to recent developments, we will be postponing the Pokémon Air Adventures that were set to start on Thursday, July 22,” according to the official announcement: “We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. We will share more information as soon as the details are finalized.”
No detailed explanation is provided, and there is no new date for the event. However, it is conceivable that rising case numbers in Japan may have played a role in the decision. For instance, a renewed state of emergency was recently declared in Tokyo, and attendance at the Olympic Games has also been limited (via Tagesschau).
How the community is reacting: Already at the announcement of the event, there was criticism from some trainers that the event would favor spoofers – after all, both bonus Pokémon are behind regional boundaries. However, the postponement has generally been met with positive reactions:
- “For once, they did something right,” finds user “dabomerest” (via reddit).
- “Who could have seen that coming,” comments user “Alpha Rocker” (via reddit).
- “At least it’s nice to know that someone at Niantic has noticed that the pandemic is not over yet,” comments user “wilbertfire” (via reddit).
At the same time, there are comments on Twitter and Reddit that Niantic might reconsider the reduction of home bonuses from the last months. Also in June, Niantic announced that it wanted to revert things like the increased interaction rates at stops and gyms – and faced criticism for that.
