Good chances for many more Stops and Gyms in Pokémon GO – Ingress players are reporting surprisingly many portals in the game.
For a few days now, Ingress players have been able to propose new portals in the OPR project, which will then be added to the game. The good thing about it is that the Stops and Gyms in Pokémon GO are partly based on these portal locations.
As the number of reported portals is skyrocketing, we should soon be able to find many new Stops, Gyms, or even nests in Pokémon GO.
New PokéStops through Ingress Portals
Recently, Niantic gave the “green light” for portal proposals in Ingress again. Ingress is also developed by Niantic and was released long before Pokémon GO. The basic elements of the game can also be found in Pokémon GO. For example, PokéStops, Gyms, and nests are located in areas that are already important in Ingress.
The OPR (Operation Portal Recon) project is a community tool from Niantic where new portals can be approved or rejected. Now many players are reporting portals in Ingress to benefit from them in Pokémon GO as well. Because in many places, especially in rural areas, there are still far too few PokéStops and Gyms.

Not every portal will be implemented in Pokémon GO
While these many reports are a cause for joy, you should not assume that soon there will be a PokéStop at every street corner.
As Niantic’s Community Manager “Andrew Krug” explained, not every new portal will become a new Stop, a new Gym, or anything else in Pokémon GO. However, a large part of the data will be transferred to Pokémon GO.
Trainers criticize the system – Should also be possible in Pokémon GO
Alongside many positive reactions, trainers are also dissatisfied with the system. Because the prerequisite to have reached a certain level in Ingress makes reporting difficult. Players in rural areas need active Ingress players in their vicinity to create and propose these portals.
This is difficult in rural areas, where often there are fewer players than in the city. For this reason, trainers wish for a dedicated reporting system in Pokémon GO. When that will come is currently unclear.
