In Pokémon GO, there are concerns about Mime Jr. The Pokémon may soon not only be catchable in Europe. We will tell you why.
Where is the problem? Since the 1st generation, Mime Jr. has been a regional Pokémon and can only be caught in Europe. But now the release of its baby Pokémon, Mime Jr., is imminent, and this could change its role significantly.
Because Mime Jr. is likely to hatch from eggs, and any player worldwide could obtain these. This means Mime Jr. could then evolve into Mime Jr.
That’s why Mime Jr. could become a problem
How will Mime Jr. be released? Since Mime Jr. is a baby Pokémon, it will likely hatch from eggs like any other baby. Currently, all babies are in 7 km eggs, and these eggs are known to be obtained only from gifts from friends. It is not known whether Mime Jr. will also be released through these eggs, but it can be assumed.
This could become a problem: Just like any baby, Mime Jr. can evolve into Mime Jr. But if every player in the world can hatch a Mime Jr., then everyone could have access to Mime Jr. and thus the Pokémon would no longer be regional.
Even if Mime Jr. only hatches from European eggs, the rest of the world could obtain this Pokémon through European friends.
Why is this bad? Mime Jr. is not particularly strong and offers no advantages to players in Europe. Nevertheless, it has the status of a regional Pokémon. Each region in the world has its own regional Pokémon. If Europe loses its Pokémon now, it will be at a disadvantage compared to other regions worldwide.
This is what players are saying: On Reddit, player “Kario-Uchiha” asks: “Is Mime Jr. no longer regional with the release of Mime Jr.?”, hitting the question on the head for many players.
Other players see Mime Jr. more as a plague and would welcome a worldwide release: “Please let Niantic release Mime Jr. worldwide so that every player can experience the plague of cloudy weather,” says user “StraightenedSlinky”.
How could the problem be solved? To maintain Mime Jr.’s regional status, Niantic could leave out the evolution of Mime Jr. This way, every player could get Mime Jr. from eggs but not evolve it into Mime Jr.
Some players also speculate that Mime Jr. can only be obtained from European eggs. This would not eliminate the problem with the evolution, but at least mitigate it. Many players probably only have a few friends spread across the continents.
So far, it is not known how Mime Jr. will be released. We will have to wait and see what Niantic comes up with for this Pokémon.
There are already new Pokémon to catch right now:
