If you evolve Eevee without a specific evolution trick, the evolution is random and is displayed with a question mark next to the evolution button. If you rename your Eevee to “Kira”, the silhouette of Feelinara appears next to the evolution button. This confirms that the nickname Kira leads to the evolution.
Does it already work? No, when you click on “Evolve” after renaming to “Kira”, the game shows you an error. You cannot collect a Feelinara with this trick before the Pokémon’s release. What is it with Kira and the name tricks?
What’s behind it: Eevee is a versatile Pokémon with nine known evolutions. In games other than Pokémon GO, it evolves specifically with stones. If you want to evolve into Flareon, you give Eevee a Fire Stone. However, these stones do not exist in Pokémon GO, which is why the Niantic team had to come up with an alternative solution for the evolutions.
If you give Eevee a nickname, you can control the evolution for that specific nickname once. If you name Eevee Rainer, it will specifically evolve into Vaporeon. If you name it Sparky, it will become Jolteon and through the nickname Pyro into Flareon.
