In Pokémon GO there is currently a box in the shop that offers a lot of raid passes. Who is it worth it for?
What kind of box is this? Currently, there is a new “Super Raid Box” in Pokémon GO. This variant of the box costs 999 coins and includes:
- 15 Premium Battle Passes
- 1 Lure Module
- 3 Silver Pineapples
If you compare this with the “normal” shop prices, it looks like this:
- 1 Premium Battle Pass normally costs 100 coins. So you would get to 1500 coins.
- 1 Lure Module also costs 100 coins.
- Silver Pineapples are normally not available in the shop but are actually earned as a reward.
So you’re saving 600 coins – and in the Pokémon GO subreddit TheSilphRoad, a user placed the offer in the overall context of the last few years.
For whom is the offer worth it?
User Montressian pointed out in the Pokémon GO subreddit that the box is probably the best offer since 2018 if you look at raid passes and their coin price. This means every raid pass in the Super Raid Box costs an average of 67 coins.
Important: The user only considers boxes that have no purchase limit, meaning they can be bought multiple times. In this category, only two other boxes have achieved better prices so far, and both were available in April 2018 (via reddit).
Furthermore, in addition to the passes, you also receive the lure module and the three silver pineapples as a bonus.
For whom is the offer worth it? Basically, you get one Premium Battle Pass in the game every day by spinning gyms or PokéStops. So you’re not necessarily reliant on buying passes from the shop.
However, the offer is likely to be interesting for players who generally raid multiple times a day or week. It should also be considered that in March and April there are two dates with top raids with Regieleki and Regidrago that can only be completed on-site with raid passes.
At 999 coins, the box is not exactly cheap, but it is at least reachable: you can earn 1,000 coins within 20 days, during which you earn 50 coins each day for defending gyms without spending any additional money.
What trainers say: Even though the offer itself is received positively, trainers have some criticism regarding raid passes. They point out that there is now a more popular raid item – namely the remote raid pass.
Here, trainers still miss the weekly remote raid pass that used to exist (via reddit), or note regarding the box: “Unfortunately, things have changed since the last time we received such an offer, and the vast majority strongly prefer remote raiding,” a user notes (via reddit): “I’m glad to get it for myself but it’s not as big a deal as it used to be.”
In addition, earlier boxes may have brought a better coins-per-raid-pass price but had noticeably more premium items, such as lucky eggs or lure modules.
Whether the box is worth it for oneself should therefore be decided according to one’s own gaming behavior – and whether it is worth the effort for the coins.
Praise and criticism also came outside the shop in Pokémon GO: Over the weekend, the CATCH ART event with Nockchan, Rabauz, Kicklee, and Kapoera took place. This brought XP bonuses for strong throws – but also a pretty tough Pokémon.
