A player of Pokémon GO reported that a thug from Team Rocket stole his phone. However, the thug was actually a thief.
It sounds like a made-up story, but a Reddit user reports that his phone was stolen by people in Team Rocket outfits.
After not getting his phone back after a few minutes, he suspects that it was indeed a real thief who was simply well disguised.
What is behind the phone theft?
What did the player think? The trainer suspected a PR stunt from Niantic behind the theft. After all, two real Team Rocket thugs attacked New York and caused a stir there.
He said: “They were wearing real Team Rocket uniforms, so I was excited and thought Niantic was in town. However, they did not come back, and it has been 10 minutes.”
He then added that there is currently no costume convention happening in his city, and he is now worried. Other Reddit users advised him to report it to the police.
Would it fit? Since Team Rocket has not only besieged New York, but also subsequently the entire world, it could have been quite possible that Niantic was also pulling a prank here.
The thief definitely chose the most fitting time, as Team Rocket is currently a topic of discussion among all players.
How credible is the story? This is debatable. The thread has been deleted again, and many players doubt the truthfulness of the statement.

What do you think? Is there some truth behind the story? This player was even criminal himself:
