As part of the Pokémon GO Fest 2020, Trainers could challenge the Rocket Boss Giovanni with everything they had. However, a particularly clever tactic also worked with a seemingly weak team.
This was the challenge: The GO Fest was taken over on Sunday by Team Rocket. Here, the goal was to defeat the bosses in their balloons to face Giovanni at the end.
He did not fight with his usual team but had a combination of Snobilikat, Sandamer, and Crypto-Mewtu. A trainer countered this on the weekend with an unusual tactic.
Two Magikarp and a Tengulist take down Giovanni
This is how the battle went: On Reddit, user “-Freya” shared a video of the battle against Giovanni as we rarely see it. The team consisted of:
- A 10-CP Magikarp
- ANOTHER 10-CP Magikarp
- And a 1500-CP Tengulist
Freya actually manages to bring the evil villain, including his Crypto-Mewtu, to heel. The special thing is: Tengulist was basically the only monster responsible for damage here. Freya only used the two Magikarp to extend the time window between Giovanni’s attacks through Pokémon swaps.
It is important to know that Giovanni was not quite as powerful during the GO Fest as he usually is. Freya wanted to take on the challenge of defeating Giovanni with a Community-Day monster like Tengulist, as many players probably have it. However, the two Magikarp are also crucial.
“The two Magikarp actually played important roles. They allowed me to stall Giovanni a bit longer; without them, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this!
-Freya on reddit
In fact, Giovanni was defeated even without using shields. The Rocket Boss has often been the target of strange teams – after all, the challenge to defeat him is significant. Just a few weeks ago, a trainer set out to attack Giovanni with only a lonely Irokex.
