In the coming days, Niantic will activate a Europe-wide event in Pokémon GO. The reason is the issues that occurred in Dortmund.
New Event: During the coming week, Niantic plans to launch an event that will be active across Europe. This is basically an apology for the issues at the Safari Zone in Dortmund.
Why the apology? The Safari Zone started in Dortmund at around 9:00 AM on Saturday. By late afternoon, serious errors occurred that made it impossible for players to participate in the event. For some trainers, the apps constantly crashed, while others simply could not connect to Pokémon GO.
Problems at the Safari Zone in Westfalenpark Dortmund
Frustration among players: About 1.5 hours after the start of the Safari Zone on June 30, problems arose in Pokémon GO. Game data could no longer be retrieved from the servers, trainers could not access the game. The Westfalenpark in Dortmund, the venue for the Safari Zone, was particularly affected.
This was extremely frustrating for players because many traveled a long way to attend this special event. Images from Dortmund showed that a large number of trainers were present. In between, Niantic explained that the Safari Zone’s capacity had been reached and trainers should prefer to go to the city first and return later.
Why the large influx? Rare Pokémon like Corasonn and Unown attracted the masses of trainers to Dortmund. When the problems occurred at the Safari Zone, trainers migrated to the city. Because there, with help from Niantic, there were now more rare monsters to find – After all, trainers shouldn’t have traveled in vain.
Community annoyed
Disappointed players: In our Pokémon community on Facebook, thousands of trainers exchanged their experiences on Saturday. Many were disappointed with Niantic. “You plan such a big event and then it fails,” they wrote. Others were annoyed because they went out of their way. After all, a similar large event went wrong last year. The legendary GO Fest became a legendary mess.
