The map in Pokémon GO has been thematically adjusted for the season in recent days, but now it is back to “normal”. We at MeinMMO have looked at what the trainers think about the new look and are showing you what changes they are now demanding.
What change is being discussed? In the last two weeks, Niantic held the annual Halloween event in Pokémon GO. In addition to a lot of appropriate spawns, the map in the game was also thematically adjusted.
The map, as well as the many PokéStops, shone in an autumnal orange-brown. In addition, you could discover falling, colorful leaves everywhere across the map, and PokéStops and gyms were additionally decorated with carved pumpkins.
However, with the start of the Día de Muertos event, which replaced the Halloween event on November 1, the game visually returned to normal.
Trainers are sad about the new old map design
As before the Halloween event, the map in Pokémon GO is now colored green again. The PokéStops shine in their familiar blue again, and there are no more autumn decorations to be seen in the game.
Many players find this very unfortunate and are sad about this graphic change. Thus, the Reddit user justforgigsandgags writes in his post (via reddit.com): “Am I the only one a little upset that they removed the autumn aesthetic?”
And it seems the trainer is not alone, as his post is receiving considerable support. As of now (November 2, 2022, at 09:30), it has already received over 3,700 upvotes. The comments also make it clear that some wish to have the autumn feeling back.
Trainers demand: “It should stay the whole autumn”
The majority of trainers cannot understand why Niantic changed the map’s appearance back, since it is still autumn, and the look would have fit perfectly with the current season. In the comments, you can read the following (via reddit.com):
- DaCheat452: “I miss it too. I think it should stay the whole autumn.”
- Carl_Shadowsong: “I hate it. The autumn map was great as it reflects the same season in my country. It was thematic and engaging. Now we are back to the summer map while I am wearing a winter coat to work because it is cold and foggy everywhere. At least they should let the players choose which aesthetic they want.”
- Remarkably-Soft69: “It was so beautiful and the game felt so inviting! I actually wanted to play! The animation of falling leaves was exciting and festive. Now it feels dull and monotonous. Like the annoying duty of eating bland food that your best friend’s grandma made when you visited, but you enjoy your friend’s company and don’t want to be rude… So you eat it anyway and say thank you grandma/Abuela.”
Representation by regions: Trainers like danielspoa, however, have a different opinion. He lives in a region where it is currently spring. The autumn theme would not fit the current season at all there. But he also thinks a new graphic is needed and therefore demands a representation that adapts to the respective region.
He writes in the comments on reddit: “If they do it regionally, that could be cool. They have the technology, so why not? I say this because where I live it is spring.”
Whether Niantic will take this criticism to heart and whether trainers can soon look forward to new, seasonally appropriate designs for the map remains to be seen. If there is any new information on this, you will definitely find out from us at MeinMMO.
