In Pokémon GO, you can now trade with other players who are several kilometers away. However, this bonus is a test and will therefore only last for a certain period.
What kind of test is this? When you open Pokémon GO on your mobile device, you will immediately be greeted by a message from Niantic. It announces that the trade range has now been increased.
They are testing this to possibly reintroduce the bonus in future events. For this, the developers are now collecting data from the players who use it.
The tests started on November 12 at 23:30. The increased range is scheduled to last until November 16 at 19:00. So you only have a few days to try it out.
Why is Niantic doing this? The increased trade range is a change that trainers have long desired. Due to COVID-19 and the distancing regulations from other people, this topic has come back into focus. It is quite possible that the developers are linking both issues here.
What is the new trade distance?
Trainers notice: After the announcement, trainers immediately took to social networks to report their test results. Because Niantic omitted one piece of information in the event announcement: What distance can they now trade at?
According to player reports, the new distance must be between 10 and 15 kilometers. Reliable details are still being investigated.
In a reddit post, user Scorpionco explains that the limit is 12 kilometers. Even at 12.125 kilometers away from his trading partner, the trade was unsuccessful.
