Finding Ground-type Pokémon for the Sinnoh Tasks in Pokémon GO is now easier. This is an important task for the Nostalgia Challenge, which was initially difficult to complete.
What is it about? On Friday, May 22, 2020, the Sinnoh tasks of the Nostalgia Challenge 2020 began in Pokémon GO.
These tasks are divided into 9 different steps, where you need to find and catch various types of Pokémon. This can include Grass, Electric, or Fighting-type Pokémon.
Niantic is now assisting with research – Why?
This was the problem: A few hours after the start of the challenge, voices from trainers emerged. The absence of Ground-type Pokémon was an issue, as Step 4 of the research requires you to catch a Pokémon of this type.
Trainers wondered where they could find Ground-type Pokémon at all.

How Pokémon GO is now helping: Around midnight German time, a message appeared on reddit, reporting changes in spawns. “The spawns for Hippo seem to have changed.”
Trainer TomNeverNR6 reported that he didn’t see the Pokémon Hippopotas all day and suddenly, all at once, two appeared within 100 meters. And that without any nearby nests.
Other trainers also agree with this observation:
- “Yes, something has really changed. I see a few of them now in the ‘Nearby’ display”
- “Yes, none before, and suddenly 2 in my house”
- “Same here. Not many, but at least they are spawning now”
- “Went from 0 to 2 in ‘Nearby'”
- “Definitely. I believe they [Niantic] have listened to us”
So if you’re still looking for Ground-type Pokémon, keep an eye out for Hippopotas. If you’re not lucky, there are other methods to obtain Ground-type Pokémon.
Where else can you find Ground-type Pokémon? In various areas of Pokémon GO, you can expect Ground-types.
- Larvitar is waiting as a reward in the PvP League
- Flunschlick is a guaranteed reward in the PvP League when you reach rank 4
- Hippoterus is a level 4 raid boss – You can find all new raid bosses for the Sinnoh event here
- Digda and Onix can spawn when you ignite magnetic modules
With this help, you should be able to complete the Pokémon GO task related to the Sinnoh Nostalgia much more easily. It’s worth it for you because in the end, a Cresselia awaits as a reward. We show you here where to find Steel and Ghost-type Pokémon.
