In Pokémon GO you can now catch Purmel, Puponcho, and Vivillon. However, Vivillon comes in 18 different patterns which you can unlock with a new feature.
What kind of Pokémon are these? Surprisingly, Pokémon GO released a new Pokémon family on the night of December 16. Just a few hours earlier, the team showed a small teaser. But now you can obtain Purmel and its evolutions Puponcho and Vivillon in Pokémon GO.
The 18 different patterns make the Pokémon particularly interesting for collectors. To unlock the patterns, you need postcards.
Unlock Wing Patterns for Vivillon with Postcards

What is special about it? With 18 different wing patterns, Vivillon is available in Pokémon GO. This should excite collectors. By collecting and pinning postcards from other trainers, from PokéStops or gyms that come from other regions, you can unlock them.
Niantic explains it this way:
By pinning postcards from permissible regions, the Vivillon collector medal is unlocked, and progress is made in the sub-medals for the origin region of the postcards. As you make progress in the sub-medals, you can encounter Purmel. Purmel from different regions evolves into Vivillon with different patterns!

What Vivillon patterns are there and where can you find them?
This is how it works: The first time you pin a postcard, you unlock the Vivillon collector medal. After that, a brief tutorial in the game will show you how to encounter Purmel.
“Additionally, you can receive sub-medals for the Vivillon collector medal by pinning postcards from other regions. You can pin both your own postcards and those received from friends. These sub-medals belong to the different regions with Vivillon patterns,” explains Niantic.
“For the first sub-medal, you need to collect three postcards from a region with a Vivillon pattern. Once you’ve received a sub-medal, you can achieve further progress to encounter Purmel more often as a reward! The number of postcards required to increase the rank of the sub-medal increases with each rank advancement.”
You can pin up to 3 of your own postcards daily to make progress.

What you need to know: Purmel from different regions evolves into Vivillon, which have different wing patterns. The pattern they take on is determined by the climate of their habitats. So, if you collect postcards from cold regions of the world, you can encounter Purmel, which then evolves into Vivillon with the snowy field pattern.
