In Pokémon GO you can currently secure a limited research that rewards you with rare items. However, it is not active for everyone. We at MeinMMO show you who receives it, what you can get and how trainers are reacting to it.
What research is it about? In Pokémon GO, a new limited research is active for many players since today. You can find it in the Today
-overview of your game and it can be claimed there until June 30th.
The reason for the research is a bug in the Crypto-Raids with Mewtu in May. Many players reported that they did not receive XL-special candies after the raids. Niantic then apologized on Twitter on June 5th and announced compensation. This is now active, as the developers also announced on Twitter during the night of June 10th.
They write (via twitter.com): Trainers, thank you for your patience. If you completed a Mewtu-Crypto-Raid on May 27 and 28, you should now have a limited research in your ‘Today’ view that rewards you with XL-special candies, depending on how many Mewtu-Crypto-Raids you completed.
What you need to do to receive the reward, how many candies there will be, and who gets the research at all, we have summarized for you below.
How to secure the reward from the limited research
Who gets the research? Unlike other limited researches that usually occur in Pokémon GO, this is only available to players who participated in one of the Crypto-Raids with Crypto-Mewtu on May 27 and 28.
This is because the contents are supposed to serve as compensation for the players who played on those days and had issues with the XL-special candies after the rewards from the raid. Those who did not play will unfortunately miss out on the research.
What task needs to be solved? The limited research is incredibly simple, as you only need to catch a Pokémon to solve it. It doesn’t matter which one. Once you have done that, you unlock the reward.
What reward is there? Since there were issues with the XL-special candies after the raids against Crypto-Mewtu, you will also find these in the reward. Depending on how many raids you completed on those two days, you can look forward to different amounts. According to reports on social networks, the following reward levels are suspected by trainers: (via reddit.com):
- 1-10 raids: 10 XL-special candies
- 11-24 raids: 20 XL-special candies
- 24 or more raids: 30 XL-special candies
Trainers are excited about the compensation
The compensation is well received in the community, as many players can secure many more XL-special candies this way than they would have done through the raids. This is because this special item is not very common in the game.
XL-special candies are helpful because they can be used flexibly to level up strong, especially legendary Pokémon, to level 50. This is often a problem as trainers lack enough candies of the respective Pokémon, making special candies very sought after. Many positive comments can currently be found on Reddit (via reddit.com):

Problems with kids’ accounts: However, there are also reports of issues with kids’ accounts regarding compensation. These are special accounts that parents can create for their underage children. Players report on Reddit that only they received the limited research in the game, while their children with kids’ accounts did not.
As the Reddit user Lurkeelurker writes: My husband and I both received 20 each. Our daughter’s account received none, and she completed all raids with us (she is level 36). She also has not yet received her remote raid passes from the Vesprit/Selfe raids. I wonder if kids’ accounts from Niantic are not rewarded.
And they are not alone, looking at the comments. So let’s hope that these accounts will also receive compensation. Whether and when that will happen is still open.
