In Pokémon GO there were issues with the shapeshifter Zorua. Now the developers have responded to this – and are distributing some items.
On Twitter, the official Pokémon GO account reported on November 15, 2022, announcing that some changes are coming for Zorua (via Twitter).
The Pokémon appeared on October 25, but immediately brought some issues with its debut. You can read more about this below. Now here’s what’s happening:
- Incorrect stats and attacks for Zorua will be updated
- Untransformed Zorua from gadgets like the GO Plus will now revert to their actual form
- You should now be able to use Zorua in the GO Battle League, trade it, and transfer it to Pokémon Home
Additionally, a free box will be released in the shop as compensation. Inside, you will find a total of 22 items:
- 20 Pokéballs
- 1 Star Piece
- 1 Lure Module
Scroll in the shop to the outfits section where you usually collect your daily free box. You will now find the new free box there.
Note: The box seems to be rolled out gradually and may arrive for some trainers earlier than for others. So don’t be surprised if it’s not there right away, and restart the game if in doubt.
What happened with Zorua in Pokémon GO?
This is what happened: For the release of the shapeshifting Pokémon Zorua, Niantic had planned a special surprise event.
The plan: During the spotlight hour with Shuppet, you were supposed to bring your buddy to suddenly find many spawns of that monster for a few minutes. If you had a Pikachu as a buddy, the wild would fill with Pikachu that would then turn out to be Zorua when caught.
That was how the event was intended. However, in early time zones like New Zealand, the error occurred that Zorua took on the stats such as size, CP, and attacks of the mimicked Pokémon.
This allowed trainers to get Zorua with incredibly high stats and overly strong attacks – this is now being corrected.
Due to this error, the event didn’t take place here at all and the release was postponed – to October 28. Now Zorua could simply appear in the wild and mimic a buddy there.
But then there was a second error: When trainers caught Zorua with gadgets like the GO Plus, it remained in the mimicked form and didn’t transform into its actual shape. This was, of course, particularly funny if you had legendary monsters as buddies and could suddenly duplicate super-rare monsters.
Due to this error, the GO Plus and other Bluetooth catching gadgets were deactivated and later reactivated.
These “transformed” Zorua are also now to be reverted to their actual form, according to Niantic.
