Trainers in Pokémon GO are upset because their Shinies are escaping them. Apparently, Niantic forgot to program a Ditto quest correctly. This shouldn’t happen.
What’s happening in Pokémon GO? Today, on April 1st, a Ditto event is taking place in Pokémon GO. The chances of encountering the Transform Pokémon are higher, and there is a special research task along with particular field research. Some trainers are reporting that there is a bug during the event.
Although Shiny-Pokémon should not transform into Ditto, that is exactly what’s happening now. We’ll show you what’s going on and what you need to pay attention to.
Shinys are becoming normal Ditto
Here’s the problem: On reddit and Twitter, trainers are reporting that their Shiny Pokémon are transforming into Ditto. A mechanic that shouldn’t actually work. Niantic made it very clear: If you catch a Shiny, it can never transform into Ditto. However, if you catch a normal Pokémon that can transform into Ditto, you might receive a Shiny Ditto.
But that’s exactly what’s happening now. MeinMMO reader Mel drew our attention to a clip on Twitter. In the clip, a caught Shiny Lithomith transforms into a normal Ditto. We embed the clip for you here:
Another trainer shows a video on reddit. There, a Shiny Nebulak is found that then transforms into a Ditto.
In the comments, other trainers point out that this shouldn’t happen and that it seems to be a mistake by Niantic.
When does this happen? According to previous reports from trainers, this occurs when you get an encounter with a Pokémon that can transform into Ditto from a field research task. Just like in the examples with Nebulak and Lithomith. The issue apparently doesn’t occur with wild catches.
Apparently, this mechanic is unintentional, as it is not Niantic’s goal to take your rare Shinies away from you. How the affected players will be compensated is still unclear. Comments on reddit suggest that Niantic simply forgot to program the quest with Ditto so that players wouldn’t lose their Shinies.
