A new feature in the game is supposed to connect you and your Pokémon in Pokémon GO and reward you with additional candies.
Since its release in July, Pokémon GO has undergone many changes. The latest change from the developers is a buddy system. You can select Pokémon from your collection to accompany you on your adventures. The unique aspect is that the Pokémon is not in a PokéBall, but is displayed next to you in your avatar and profile. Additionally, you will receive rare Pokémon candies as rewards!
From Favorite Pokémon to Buddy Pokémon
We previously reported that data miners discovered a “Buddy System” in the data of Pokémon GO. At that time, it was still unclear when this feature would be implemented in the game and how far the development actually was. An official announcement from Pokémon GO has now confirmed the buddy Pokémon. This feature will be integrated into the game “very soon” and will be available for trainers.
You can choose a buddy Pokémon from your collection at any time. It will accompany you while you are on the go and give you rewards. Similar to hatching eggs, there is a certain distance you must cover to receive rewards. It is important that you can change your buddy Pokémon at any time. So if you are no longer happy with a Zubat fluttering next to you, you can simply switch to a Squirtle to earn Squirtle candies.
Following the rating system by the team leaders, buddy Pokémon are the next innovation for trainers in the game. According to Niantic, several changes are planned for the fall that trainers can look forward to. You can find the official statement from Niantic here.
The buddy Pokémon finally provide a new way to obtain Pokémon candies for rare Pokémon. With Pokémon candies, you can evolve the little monsters. Previously, candies were only awarded when you caught a Pokémon – making it difficult to evolve rare Pokémon.
