The new update 0.159.0 in Pokémon GO has been analyzed by data miners. They show that some new Team Rocket content, new attacks, quests, Galar forms, and other changes are coming to the game. We will show you what is new.
What is happening in Pokémon GO? A new update with version number 0.159.0 is currently rolling out. Some players and data miners have already been able to try out the new version. The analysts from Pokéminers have made an accurate overview of the content that is coming to the game through the update.
Below we summarize the information from the Pokéminers. It shows that the changes are huge and will have a significant impact on the game. Included are:
- New badges
- Galar forms of Pokémon
- New Adventure Sync rewards
- New quests
- Lots of information about Team Rocket
When these new contents will be unlocked is still unclear. Some have only been found in the code so far. A few things have already been changed in the game.
Team Rocket – What new content is there?
There are many new contents related to Rocket encounters and also Giovanni. Professor Willow had already reached out to players and provided hints about the Team Rocket event.
Encounters with Team Rocket: The update now includes code for the characters
- Giovanni
- yellow, red, and blue executives (Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra)
The three executives have been mentioned by name several times, such as in the leak of the Team Rocket special research.
Additionally, the encounters are expected to change. According to the data miners, there may not only be a green area for battles against Rocket, but possibly a dedicated arena as a play area for it. Niantic is also working on the Rocket Radar, which should help find Giovanni.
The Rocket Map: A lot has been said about a map for Team Rocket, the Rocket Map, in the leaks. Due to the changes in the code, it now seems that you will have to assemble, equip, and use this map to locate Giovanni and his three helpers.
There are lures: Apparently, Niantic or Team Rocket wants to make the search for Giovanni and his three helpers more difficult. The code contains information for lures. These are likely decoys to mislead you. It seems that there is even a special text from Giovanni when you encounter such a lure.
Music and badges: For battles against Giovanni, Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra, special music will likely be played. Those who defeat Giovanni will also receive a special badge.
Changes at Rocket Stops: Apparently, Niantic plans to make the availability of Rocket invasions not possible at every hour of every day anymore. They have now implemented possibilities to end these invasions at a certain time so that they do not occur at specific times on different weekdays.
New Quests for Team Rocket
In accordance with the many new contents related to Team Rocket, special quests must not be missing. The data miners found exactly two in the code. These are:
- Find Team Rocket
- First Rocket Grunt of the day
Finding Team Rocket appears to be a normal research task, while the first Rocket Grunt of the day likely works similarly to the first PokéStop of the day and the first Pokémon catch of the day.
Galar Forms in the PokéDex
As reported by the data miners, Niantic is still working on bringing the Galar forms into the game. They are expected to be displayed similarly to the Alola forms. The following Galar forms have been added in the code:
- Gloom
- Zigzagoon
- Linoone
There should also be a search filter for the Galar forms to quickly find them in the collection.
New Attacks in Pokémon GO
What attacks are these? The code now contains data for the attacks
- Flying Press
- and Aura Sphere
Flying Press is an attack from Generation 6 of Fighting type. It is the special attack of Resladero.
Aura Sphere is also of Fighting type, but belongs to Generation 4.
New Rewards in Adventure Sync
New goal in Adventure Sync: It seems that Niantic is introducing another goal in the Adventure Sync achievements. The code mentions a fourth weekly fitness goal. Which distance trainers need to cover and what rewards are available is currently unclear.
Currently, there are weekly rewards for all trainers. The free items you receive depend on the kilometers you traveled in the last week.
Changes in PvP
The developers at Niantic announced major changes for PvP in Pokémon GO. There will even be a dedicated league. Accordingly, there are changes in the code that relate to the Combat League.
The line “COMBAT_RANK_REWARD” indicates that there will likely be rewards for PvP in the future that depend on your rank.
