In Pokémon GO there is again a spotlight hour today, on May 12th. This time it’s all about Sunkern and an XP bonus.
What is a spotlight hour? During this event, a special Pokémon is always in the spotlight for an hour, making it extremely common in the wild. The whole thing is rounded off with a suitable bonus.
This time it is all about Sunkern, a Pokémon from Generation 2, which is appearing in conjunction with the current Johto event.
Spotlight Hour with Sunkern – All Information
When does it start? This evening, the hour starts at 6:00 PM local time. Until 7:00 PM, you can encounter Sunkern everywhere.
What bonuses are there? In addition to the numerous spawns of Sunkern, there will also be double XP when catching Pokémon. The bonus is not overwhelmingly important, as there are significantly more experience points through friendships.
However, if you combine friendship levels with the spotlight hour, it can be quite worthwhile.
Due to the Johto event, there is also double Stardust when catching Pokémon. This is worth it, as the spawns are extremely increased during the event and you will be able to catch many Pokémon.
Is the shiny hunt worth it? Sunkern is considered one of the rarer shinies in the game, as you encounter this Pokémon quite rarely outside of events. Take advantage of the hour and hope for your shiny luck, as you have a rare shiny right in front of you.
What about the spawn rate? Early trainers from New Zealand and Australia are already reporting a good spawn rate of Sunkern on reddit. You will encounter the Pokémon much more frequently.
That was not always the case. The spotlight hour with Magnetilo was, for example, a disappointment for many trainers, as the Pokémon did not appear very often.
