In Pokémon GO, a new feature for PokéStops will be available soon. This will allow you to level up PokéStops. We at MeinMMO have looked into what is already known about this and have summarized this information for you.
What kind of feature is this? For several weeks now, there have been repeated reports and findings from the PokeMiners regarding a new function at PokéStops. Specifically, it concerns power-ups at PokéStops, which are expected to be possible in the game soon.
So far, Niantic has remained tight-lipped about this new feature and has not made any official statement yet. This has also been the case with other updates, features, or events in the past. For this reason, this article currently refers to the findings of the data miners.
We will however regularly update this article and inform you as soon as there is official information from Niantic.
The PokeMiners are a group of data miners who regularly search the game code for new information. They make these findings publicly available to other Pokémon GO players. In the past, several innovations have already been confirmed before their actual release. However, since this data does not represent official information, Niantic can change it at any time or even decide against a release altogether.
All information about the new PokéStop feature
When will the new feature be released? Currently, there is no official date for the release of this function. However, the findings of the PokeMiners have increased in recent days, which could indicate that it won’t be long now. As soon as there is a concrete start date, you will find out here on MeinMMO.
Are arenas also affected by the new feature? According to the data miners, in addition to PokéStops, arenas are also expected to be leveled up with the introduction of the new feature (via reddit.com).
How will the new PokéStop feature work?
Based on the data that the PokeMiners have found so far, it can be said that the power-ups of PokéStops are closely linked to the AR scan. A certain number of scans must have been performed at a PokéStop for it to level up. How many that will be is not yet known.
Arenas are likely to behave similarly, as they can also be scanned using the AR mode. However, it has not yet been discovered whether there are other ways to get a power-up at PokéStops and arenas besides scanning.
How many levels are there? As you can see in the following Twitter post from the PokeMiners, there are 3 additional levels planned for each PokéStop besides the normal state. Once a PokéStop is leveled up, it will be somewhat taller.
You can also tell what level it is at by the number of horizontal bars located at the bottom of the PokéStop (via reddit.com). However, the information from the data miners does not yet clarify how this will look for arenas.
Does such a power-up last permanently? No. According to the PokeMiners, it is not intended to be a permanent state (via reddit.com). So, new scans must be performed regularly to keep a PokéStop leveled up.
If that doesn’t happen, it will revert to a normal PokéStop and can then receive power-ups again. How long the power-ups last has also not yet been discovered in the game code.
What does the new feature bring you?
Of course, you will also be rewarded by Pokémon GO for leveling up PokéStops and arenas. The PokeMiners have already found initial hints about what a power-up might bring you. Below we have summarized this information for you (via reddit.com):
- Bonus items, such as berries, balls, and potions, but also stardust or coins
- special spawns
- lucky spin where you stop the photo disc where you started spinning it
- bonus raid balls
- statistics on the number of scanned PokéStops and arenas
Whether there will be more bonuses and what bonus items and spawns you can actually expect from the power-ups is still uncertain at the moment.
As soon as there are new findings from the data miners regarding the new feature at PokéStops or Niantic officially comments on the release, you will find out in this article on MeinMMO.
