At the start of the Water Festival in Pokémon GO, a limited research will be unlocked. As a reward, you will receive items and two Pokémon encounters. One has the chance to bring you a Shiny.
What is happening in Pokémon GO? On May 12, the big Water Festival starts, bringing Kapu-Kime into the raids. Additionally, for the first time, there will be shiny Bithora and the Pokémon Araqua with its evolution Aranestro.
As you are familiar with from other events, there will also be limited research available for all players this time. You will find it in the Today’s Overview in the game. We show you what it contains.
Limited Research for the Water Event – All Rewards
When will the research be available? It will be available at the start of the event at 10:00 AM on May 12. You have until the end of the event, on May 20 at 8:00 PM, to complete it.
The tasks:
- Catch 15 Pokémon
- Reward: 20 Poké Balls
- Catch 50 Pokémon
- Reward: 25 Great Balls
- Catch 25 Water-type Pokémon
- Reward: 25 Ultra Balls
- Land 25 curveball throws
- Reward: Encounter with Araqua
- Catch 10 different species of Pokémon
- Reward: 50 Mega Energy for Gyarados
Total reward: If you successfully complete all tasks and claim your rewards, you will also receive an additional 1,000 Stardust, 1,000 experience points, and an encounter with the new Lapras, wearing a scarf.
The new Pokémon: Through the research, you can encounter the two Pokémon Araqua and Lapras. Araqua is newly catchable in the game. This Pokémon is of the Water and Bug types and comes from the seventh generation of games. While Lapras has been in the game before, it is “new” because it is available in the game for the first time with this scarf costume.

Conclusion: With the new research, you have the chance to catch two new Pokémon. The tasks are quite simple and should be completed in a short time. During the Water Festival, you will find Pokémon like Sterndu, Marill, Wailmer, Bithora, Flegmon, Araqua, Quaputzi, and Mantax in the wild. This greatly helps with the water-type task.
