The last season in Pokémon GO was all about the Dynamax feature. A new item introduced for this has caused frustration and criticism in the community.
What is this item? In Pokémon GO, the Dyna-Mushroom is a new item. When you use this item, it doubles the damage of your Pokémon’s attacks in Dynamax and Gigantamax battles for 30 minutes.
This bonus is expected to be helpful especially in challenging Gigantamax battles, of which there will be a brand new Gigantamax monster this coming weekend that requires a large number of trainers. However, so far the item has not been well received in the community.

High Costs, Little Benefit
What is the community criticizing? The main point of criticism from the community is the high costs of the Dyna-Mushrooms. For a single Dyna-Mushroom, you have to pay 400 PokéCoins, and for a pack of 3 mushrooms, you pay 1,000 coins.
Due to the limitation of 50 free coins that you can receive daily in Pokémon GO, you will have to save for quite some time if you want to acquire Dyna-Mushrooms without spending real money. You would need to save for 8 days for a single mushroom, and for the 3-pack, even 20 days.
What does the community say about this? It is difficult to find positive feedback in the comments on this topic. Player dartheduardo accuses Niantic, for example, of deliberately making Gigantamax battles so difficult so that trainers would buy the item.
He writes on Reddit: “The old ‘create a problem and sell a solution’ tactic. Older than time itself.”
The creator of the post points out: These prices are disgusting for a F2P player
.
In another post on Reddit, trainers list alternatives that they would prefer to the cost of a Dyna-Mushroom. The post creator lists the following alternatives that you could also get for the price of 400 coins:
- 2 Remote Raid Passes (with 10 coins left over) or
- 5 Lucky Eggs or
- 4 Lure Modules or
- 4 Premium Battle Passes (with 50 coins left over)
Other trainers write about this:
- “I will take the Remote Raid Passes,” writes Dense_Cellist9959
- “To be honest, I would rather buy +100 capacity for the bag,” says Shinjosh13
- “No, I would rather buy incubators or more storage capacity,” writes anthayashi
- “lol I only spend my money on Remote Raid Passes, and only when I want a specific Pokémon, IV, or shiny. I love Pokémon, but PoGO has by far the worst microtransactions of all the games I’ve ever played,” notes trainer Kirby2k1
Not only in the community are there negative voices about the Gigantamax feature and the development of this feature. MeinMMO author Paul Kutzner is also not exactly a big fan of this feature so far: Gigantamax abolishes Pokémon GO’s home office and still asks for a high price for it.
