Currently, the big World Championship event is running in Pokémon GO, where you can also secure new field research tasks. We at MeinMMO have taken a look at what tasks are available and will tell you which ones you should grab.
What tasks are there? The big World Championship event launched on August 18 in Pokémon GO, which takes place alongside the Pokémon World Championship in London. In addition to numerous spawns, Shinys, and bonuses, one thing must not be missing from such an event: thematically appropriate field research tasks.
In total, Niantic has provided you with 4 new quests. We will show you what tasks and rewards are hidden behind them and how you can secure these tasks.
How long does the World Championship event run? The World Championship event runs from August 18, 2022, at 10:00 AM local time until August 23, 2022, at 8:00 PM local time.
All new quests for the World Championship event
Where can you get the quests? As you know from the field research tasks from August, you can obtain the event quests by spinning the PokéStop. Subsequently, the research will be displayed in the “Field” view of your game. You can access this by clicking on the binoculars.
You recognize the tasks by the note “Event”. They can be found in the game during the entire World Championship event, i.e., until August 23 at 8:00 PM local time. You will then have unlimited time to complete the quests as usual.
What quests are there? On the occasion of the World Championship event, Niantic has made 4 new quests available to you that revolve around the topics “Battling” and “Power-Ups”. As a reward, you will encounter one of a total of 11 Pokémon.
We have summarized all tasks and rewards for you with the help of LeekDuck’s overview:
| Task | Reward |
| Make 3 Power-Ups on Pokémon | Encounter with Bulbasaur* Chikorita* Squirtle* |
| Make 7 Power-Ups on Pokémon | Encounter with Gastly* or Rhyhorn* or Magikarp* or Tanhel* or Dartiri* |
| Battle a Challenger | Encounter with Pikachu in the Championship Costume* |
| Battle in the GO Battle League | Encounter with Galarian Zigzagoon* or Galarian Obstagoon* |
Which tasks are particularly worth it?
Make 7 Power-Ups: Of the new event quests, the task to level up your Pokémon 7 times is particularly worth it. By doing so, you will receive an encounter with Gastly, Rhyhorn, Magikarp, Tanhel, or Dartiri.
These Pokémon have strong evolutions that are among the best attackers in Pokémon GO and can thus be useful in raids or the GO Battle League. Additionally, there is a chance for a special event move that you can secure by evolving these monsters.
If you are still missing a strong specimen, take this chance. In the wild and in raids, these Pokémon are not available during the World Championship event.
However, a downside to this quest is that you cannot choose the monster from the reward. Therefore, if you’re looking for a specific specimen, you need to bring a bit of luck. However, the task is super quick to solve and should therefore not be a problem.
Which evolutions you should perform during the World Championship event, we will tell you in the following article:
Battle a Challenger: This task is somewhat more challenging than making Power-Ups on Pokémon, but it should still be manageable. You can find the challengers at the PokéStops throughout the entire event, just like Team GO Rocket. There, you can battle them and receive a reward in the form of balls, berries, revives, or potions afterward.
Here we show you all challengers and their teams.
The quest is particularly worthwhile because of the encounter with the costumed Pikachu. The Electric-type Pokémon wears a special championship costume during the World Championship event and can even be caught in its Shiny form during this event.
Since it will be one of the costumes that will likely not be found in the game again soon, it is worth trying your luck for a Shiny. You can meet Pikachu in field research during the event and also face it in Level 1 raids.
Are the other tasks worth it too?
Other tasks can also be interesting for some players. Especially Shiny hunters will be pleased, as Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Squirtle, Galarian Obstagoon, and Galarian Zigzagoon can be found in their Shiny form.
If you haven’t had luck so far, you should definitely take this chance. The quests are all relatively easy to complete. However, the major drawback of these tasks is also that the selection of encounters is random. So if you want a specific monster, you need a bit of luck.
What do you think of the new quests for the World Championship event? Which ones do you definitely not want to miss? And which ones would you like for the next event? Feel free to share your opinions here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange with other trainers.
