In Pokémon GO you can solve new field research tasks again in September 2020. We show you all the new quests available and their rewards.
What’s new: Every month, Niantic rotates some of the quests and focuses on a new type. In September, everything revolves around Psychic Pokémon.
You receive tasks by spinning PokéStops and having at least one of the 3 quest slots free.
All Field Research Tasks in September 2020
Where does the information come from? Diligent trainers on the subreddit of TheSilphRoad have compiled the information. So keep in mind that there may still be quests missing and more could be added.
All Pokémon marked with a star can also be encountered as Shiny. We have listed the worthwhile quests under the bullet points. There you can read which field research tasks you should solve.
Quests with Throws
- Land 5 great curveball throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with a Pandir #2*
- Land 5 good throws
- Reward: Encounter with a Voltorb*
- Land 3 great throws
- Reward: Encounter with a Nebulak*, Anorith* or Lilient*
- Land 3 great throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with an Onix*
- Land 3 fabulous throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with a Larvitar*
The quests with Pandir and Larvitar are especially worthwhile here. Pandir is one of the rarest Shinys in the game and Tyranitar, the evolution of Larvitar, is a strong attacker of the Rock and Dark type.
Quests with Catching
- Catch 3 Pokémon with weather boost
- Reward: Encounter with a Psyduck
- Catch 3 Psychic-type Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with an Abra*
- Use 5 berries when catching Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with an Owei*
- Catch a Dragon-type Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Dratini*
- Catch 5 Pokémon with weather boost
- Reward: Encounter with a Quapsel* or Vulpix
- Catch 10 Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Magikarp*
If you need strong Psychic attackers, focus on the Abra quest. Its final evolution Alakazam is one of the best Psychic attackers in the game.
Quests with Battles
- Win a raid
- Reward: Encounter with a Bronzor*
- Defeat 2 Team GO Rocket Grunts
- Reward: Encounter with a Surskit*
- Win 5 raids
- Reward: Encounter with an Aerodactyl*
- Win a Level 3 raid or higher
- Reward: Encounter with a Kabuto* or Omanyte*
Some quests related to battles have not been available since the Corona period.
Quests with Eggs
- Hatch an egg
- Reward: Encounter with a Tanhel*
- Hatch 5 eggs
- Reward: Encounter with a Chansey*
You can easily hatch eggs from home. We give you tips on how to hatch them successfully.
The quest around Tanhel is especially good. Its evolution Metagross is the best Steel attacker in the game and here you can hope for a Shiny or one with good IVs.

- Send 3 gifts
- Reward: Encounter with a Fleknoil*
- Send 3 Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Puppance*
- Give your buddy 3 snacks
- Reward: Encounter with a Natu*
- Trade a Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Trasla*
- Evolve a Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Woingenau* or Eevee*
- Earn 5 hearts with your buddy
- Reward: 2 silver Pinap berries
- Use 5 power-ups on Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Squirtle*, Bulbasaur* or Charmander*
- Earn 3 candies while walking with your buddy
- Reward: Encounter with a Flunschlik
The quest “Send 3 Pokémon” is quick and involves Puppance, a Pokémon that is indeed rare as a Shiny. So don’t let such a quest sit idle.
What do we know about the Pandir form? The Pokémon with different forms can currently be caught in a new form. The Pandir #2 currently appears from the field research “Land 5 great curveball throws in a row.”
With this, you have the chance for a new Shiny, as this Pandir has not existed as a Shiny before.
Here are more quests: In September there are numerous events around Mega Pokémon waiting for you. They also include special quests that yield Pokémon. These include in the first week:
- Battle in a raid
- Reward: 500 stardust
- Win a raid
- Reward: Encounter with a Lotad (can be Shiny)
- Win 3 raids
- Reward: Encounter with an Aerodactyl (can be Shiny)
- Win 5 raids
- Reward: Encounter with a Chansey (can be Shiny)
- Win a Mega Raid
- Reward: Encounter with a Kabutops
- Battle against another trainer
- Reward: 5 Mega Energy from Blastoise, Charizard, or Venusaur
Research Breakthrough Rewards in September
What’s in the research breakthrough? Whoever completes a field research on 7 days in September will receive the breakthrough. This time, it contains Alolan Raichu. You can find all the info on the Pokémon in our event overview for the month of September.
Is it worth it? Alolan Raichu is particularly exciting for PvP fans. In the Great League, it is among the best Pokémon. If you’re not into the PvP league, you can at least hope for a Shiny, as the monster is also available in its shiny version.
However, Alolan Raichu is not suitable for raids or gym battles. For that, check out the best attackers of each type. There you will find the right monsters for victory.
