Your email is about to expire or you need an alternative to the PTC login? With this new feature for Pokémon GO, that’s possible.
Trainers, there is good news regarding your Pokémon GO accounts. Niantic announced that you will soon be able to link your Pokémon GO account with Facebook. This is particularly good news for those of you who are losing access to your email address or simply looking for another login option for safety.
Facebook Linking with Pokémon GO
The login process for Pokémon GO will soon be simplified for you. By linking with Facebook, you not only have another sign-in option, but you can conveniently continue your game progress from any device.
This addition is particularly beneficial for those trainers among you who created their Pokémon GO account with an email that is about to expire. For example, from a university that you no longer attend or from an internet provider whose contract with you is about to end.
With this change, it will be possible to link your trainer profile with a Facebook and Google account. Once the accounts are linked, you can log into Pokémon GO using any linked accounts.
“A person currently signing in through the Pokémon Trainer Club can link their trainer profile with both their Google and Facebook accounts and will be able to sign in with one of these accounts in the future,” is stated in Niantic’s announcement.
Niantic also confirmed that this change will also make it possible to switch the email address linked to the account.
This new feature is expected to be available “soon,” but a release date has not yet been announced. It is also unclear whether an update for Pokémon GO will need to be rolled out for this.
To utilize this new feature, players must be at least 13 years old. For the linking process, Niantic has provided a guide that you can view on the official Pokémon GO support website.
End of One-sided PTC Login Issues
In the past, it was more common for trainers signing in through the Pokémon Trainer Club to encounter issues. These were often outages affecting only the PTC – players with Google login were not affected.
Because with this new linking you no longer need to use the PTC as a login, but can choose linked accounts, these specific problems should be resolved in the future. This was also confirmed by support staff member NianticGeorge on Reddit.
