In Pokémon GO Mega Evolutions are particularly popular for use in raids and battles. As a new finding shows, there could soon be a new Mega Pokémon. We at MeinMMO have taken a look at what monster that will be and what the community thinks about it.
What is a Mega Evolution? In Pokémon GO, there are a number of monsters that have a so-called Mega Evolution. This can be triggered with the help of corresponding Mega Energy. This temporarily makes the affected monsters stronger and perfect for use in raids or Rocket battles.
After the Mega Evolution of Steelix was recently introduced into the game, there are now initial hints from the PokeMiners about the next Mega Pokémon.
The PokeMiners are a group of data miners who regularly search the game code of Pokémon GO for new information. This allows them to find out which new features or monsters will be coming to Pokémon GO even before a release.
This data should always be viewed with some skepticism, as the found information is not official and can thus be changed by Niantic at any time.
Which Mega Pokémon was found?
In the last search of the game code, the PokeMiners discovered initial hints about a new Mega Pokémon and published their finding on Twitter. According to their post, the new Mega Evolution is said to be Aerodactyl.
According to this, you need 200 Mega Energy to evolve it for the first time. For each subsequent time, only 40 Mega Energy is needed. The maximum CP value at level 50 is 4,655 CP. And the stats of Aerodactyl have already been found:
- Stamina: 190
- Attack: 292
- Defense: 210
Mega-Aerodactyl would be the first Rock-type evolution of its kind.
What the community says about Mega-Aerodactyl
The community on reddit and Twitter is excited about this news. On one hand, trainers are happy that there will finally be a Mega Evolution of the Rock type in Pokémon GO. On the other hand, the choice of monster resonates well with many players.
In the comments on Twitter, you will find numerous screenshots of different Aerodactyls and the following reactions from users (via twitter.com):

And also on reddit, trainers like TehWildMan write: ‘Oh, this will be good. At least until Tyranitar gets a Mega.’ (via reddit.com).
How strong will Mega-Aerodactyl be
Mega-Aerodactyl can impress trainers not only with its type but also with its strength. ThatHollowGuy writes on Twitter: ‘To put it into perspective: Mega-Aerodactyl has the second highest attack value among Rock types’ (via twitter.com).
And www_pokeball_dk agrees with this, but finds two other monsters even stronger: ‘It’s a beast and it’s about time we get a Rock Mega! Mega Diancie and Mega Tyranitar are definitely better.’ (via twitter.com).
In fact, Mega-Aerodactyl can especially shine with its attack, which will make it one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO. However, once a Mega form of Tyranitar becomes available in the game, it is expected to be slightly stronger than Aerodactyl.
A wish from the trainers
In line with the Jseason of origin, trainers also have a wish in connection with Aerodactyl. jdanp8 writes on reddit: ‘Hopefully, there will be a Fossil Event next year with the fossils of the 5th generation, although Mega Steelix was not released in connection with an event.’ (via reddit.com).
Many players agree with this wish in the comments. Trainers like peryrocksout also wish for monsters from the 6th generation (via reddit.com). And similar comments can also be found on Twitter. Trainer rustipani is also convinced that fossils make sense in the season of origin (via twitter.com).
