In Pokémon GO, reports of a new Pokémon that spawns everywhere are increasing. It also transforms into Ditto.
Have you seen it in your area? A mysterious Pokémon was discovered in the code of Pokémon GO yesterday, believed to be a monster of the 8th generation. Today, on September 22, trainers suddenly find monsters with the same appearance everywhere. When they catch it, it transforms into another monster. There are already initial speculations about what this phenomenon might relate to.
Trainers can’t believe their eyes – Icygno? Ditto?
Since Saturday morning, strange new Pokémon have suddenly appeared in the wild. Trainers report that these are sometimes found in groups.
Data miner found it first: Already on Friday, data miner Chrales found the new model in the data traffic of Pokémon GO. It resembles a Ditto with a nut for a head.
Initially in the code, now in the wild: Yesterday, there was still speculation about what the new Pokémon model could be. Now more and more trainers are suddenly reporting finding Pokémon with this appearance in the wild.
The following screenshot was shared by user Swate- with the TheSilphRoad community. It shows many of the new models in the “Nearby” view.
What happens when you catch it? Trainers report that the Pokémon transforms into Ditto after being caught. Player beebloo writes on Reddit: “They all transform into Ditto. What’s happening here? I’ve already caught 6 of them.” Actually, Ditto only transforms from these monsters in Pokémon GO
Other trainers report that the new monster transforms into Chikorita during the event. It has its community day today, which is already active in some regions. In the video, you can see one such catch that transforms into Chikorita.
This is the speculation about the new Pokémon
It is believed that the new monster is some kind of placeholder for Chikorita for the community day.
What does that mean? During the community day today, many more Chikorita will spawn in the wild. These strange Pokémon that are now appearing are likely placeholders that will then transform into Chikorita at the start of the event. You can also see in the video above that the catch was counted toward the quest “Catch 3 Chikorita”.
Why can we see them already? This might be a bug, and the monsters were supposed to be invisible.
Previous observations:

- If you catch it during the community day event, it transforms into Chikorita
- TheSilphRoad found out that the new Pokémon uses the cry of Kecleon. In APK 0.119.1, Kecleon’s cry was replaced with the one the new Pokémon makes
- Update 14:10: Even after the community day, the new monsters are spawning in the wild again
- Update 14:30: It seems that the nuts are all gone again or the spawns have been greatly reduced.
What this curious appearance is really about is unclear. However, the theory about placeholders for the community day is very plausible.
