In Pokémon GO, trainers report on new EX Raid arenas. You can now participate in EX Raids in additional arenas.
This change is about: In Pokémon GO, noticeably more arenas now have the EX tag than before. EX Raids can now also take place in these arenas. There, you can currently challenge Mewtwo with Shadow Ball – provided you have a suitable invitation. Mewtwo is expected to remain in the EX Raids until mid-November.
This is how the EX Raid arenas have changed
What has changed: The new EX Raid update apparently addresses the fact that certain locations on the map were previously considered excluded from EX Raids. For example, parks that were surrounded by “closed highways” – which in the Open Street Map on which the map is based can also include simple footpaths. As thesilphroad reports, this has now been changed.
New places for EX Raids: Apparently, the EX Raid arenas are no longer limited to arenas located in parks or those that have specific sponsorship agreements. A reddit user in Berlin observed that many arenas within a mega nest received an EX Raid tag.
The reddit user “WoodWoseWulf“, who often clarifies OSM-related questions, found that nests and EX Raid gyms generally share similar map tags, although the nests were subject to fewer restrictions than the EX Raids. Since these restrictions, like the “highways”, have now been removed, it makes sense that the two features now resemble each other more strongly in terms of mapping.
Players are now reporting on reddit that they are seeing significantly more EX Raid arenas than before. In Charlottenburg, for instance, the EX Raid rate in the arenas is now apparently at 90%, says user “JackBlack1709“.
Will there be more map updates soon? At least on this island, they would probably be happy if there are some adjustments to the tags:
