The improved AR technology for iOS devices will be available soon. It is supported by Pokémon GO and makes encounters appear more realistic.
The developers at Apple are working on an enhanced augmented reality experience. The tool named ARKit has now been introduced for iOS devices. Pokémon GO will be one of the apps that will support ARKit, which should result in a better representation of the virtual monsters and items in the real world.
More realistic representation of Pokémon in the real world
With ARKit, iOS devices can track the world in front of the camera more accurately and recognize movements better. Through this technology, the device “understands” precisely how and where it is moving. It captures surfaces such as tables or floors to place virtual objects on. Additionally, the tool can better manage lighting conditions to adjust virtual objects on the display more to the light of the outside world.
In short: You can expect a more realistic Pokémon GO when you use the AR feature in the game. In the following Twitter video, you can get a rough idea of the new technology.
Pay attention to how the PokéBall actually bounces on the ground and doesn’t roll across the screen. We had to play the video several times to notice the differences more clearly. This is partly due to the poor quality of the video displayed.
What the ARKit is capable of is demonstrated much better in this presentation:
When this new technology will be available for Pokémon GO is still unknown. For many trainers, this might be a reason to reactivate the AR feature in the game when catching a wild monster.
