Update, November 6, 3:00 PM:The riddle has just been solved – by official sources. New information was published on the Pokémon GO Twitter channel that explains exactly what the new monster and the chest are about.
This is the new monster:The small pursuer on the map is actually a new Pokémon called “Gierspenst” (Engl. “Gimmighoul”). This is a ghost-type monster that can appear in two forms – it will play a role in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
- The “Chest Form” is a Gierspenst inside a coin chest, as seen on the teaser page. This one tries to lure trainers to give it coins.
- Additionally, there is the “Roaming Form”, a wandering Gierspenst with a coin on its back. This is the variant currently pursuing you in Pokémon GO.
As of now, Gierspenst cannot yet be caught in Pokémon GO. Once that changes, we will keep you updated here.

What’s going on in Pokémon GO? On Saturday, November 5, 2022, the Community Day Classic with Dratini took place in the game. But it shouldn’t be the only event: after the Community Day, golden PokéStops suddenly appeared and Professor Willow contacted the players.
Willow spoke about a mysterious coin that could be collected at the golden stop. He also mentioned his new colleague “Jim”, who also commented on it. These coins should now be investigated.
More and more stops turned golden and offered the chance to collect such coins – but not always. Additionally, a novel small monster was chasing players, which apparently has its sights set on the coins. Furthermore, the Pokémon Company released a teaser website with a chest.
These developments are currently causing a lot of speculation among trainers in Pokémon GO. We summarize all known information about the current riddle here.

What is currently known? We are collecting all the details that are currently known about the riddle here. What the riddle ultimately leads to is still unknown.
You can find the information here:
- The new pursuer Pokémon still has no name and cannot currently be caught.
- If you tap it, it searches for coins and appears to be indicating with its antennas towards a coin.
- The coins come from the Paldea region – that is the region of the new Pokémon games Scarlet & Violet. They are set to release on November 18.
- Willow’s colleague “Jim” also comes from the new games.
- You can collect multiple coins, but not every golden stop gives these coins.
- The golden stops can provide unusually many items at once. This includes various Poké Balls, as well as evolution items.
- There is a new teaser website with a chest, featuring a counter in the upper left corner. This chest is gradually filling up with the mysterious coins.
Currently, the counter stands at “839” and the opened chest is already well filled (as of November 6, 11:00 AM). You can find the link to the website here (via chest.pokemon.com). The official Pokémon Twitter account also posts various updates on the chest (via Twitter) with timestamps. It remains to be seen what will happen when the chest is full.
- So far, four steps have been visible with the chest – the opened chest, coins inside, the chest from the back, and an opening animation.
- According to data miners from Pokeminers (via Twitter), you should expect to find significantly fewer golden stops from 5:00 PM. Until then, it might be worth still collecting coins – even though it’s still unclear what they are ultimately for.
- The coins are organized in the bag under the evolution items. So it is possible that they are related to the evolution of the new monster.
- However, according to Pokeminers, there are currently no data about the new monster in the APK version of Pokémon GO (via Twitter). So, don’t expect to catch it anytime soon.
In the Pokémon GO subreddit “The Silph Road”, players are currently speculating about the current facts. So far it is still unclear what the riddle will lead to. However, some (via reddit) suspect that the filling chest will lead to the introduction of the new Pokémon that is currently chasing you in the game.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time Pokémon GO introduces a new monster through a sudden, surprising action, which would later play a role in other Pokémon games. In 2018, for example, curious monsters suddenly appeared everywhere that no trainer had known. Later, this turned out to be Meltan, which was associated with the Switch games “Let’s Go, Pikachu” and “Let’s Go, Eevee”.
