Trainers in Pokémon GO are upset. They participated in an action by Wayfarer, where they were to evaluate stops in Russia for rewards. However, some are not receiving the rewards. We explain what happened and what Niantic has to say about it.
What is it about? From June 1 to June 16, 2021, Niantic promoted evaluating PokéStops in Russia through their Wayfarer program. Trainers could change their home location in the Wayfarer account to a Russian city, thereby displaying Russian stop suggestions.
This motivated trainers to become Russians
The initial goal was to reach 3,000 confirmed stops. Since this goal was quickly achieved, Wayfarer decided to raise it to 7,000. As a reward, participants were to receive corresponding bonuses in the respective Niantic games (via nianticlabs.com). These were intended for Pokémon GO:
- 100 Poké Balls
- 2 Super Incubators
- 2x Incense
- 2 Premium Raid Passes
- 10 Wayfarer Upgrades
Some players from all parts of the world took this chance and temporarily changed their home location accordingly. They diligently evaluated the Russian stops via Wayfarer and were able to achieve the goal. The event is now over, but where are the rewards?
What about the promised rewards?
Some trainers have been waiting longer for their rewards from the Wayfarer program. User ROFLwaffle27 on reddit complains that he processed several Russian Wayfarer proposals and still hasn’t received any reward (via reddit.com). Other trainers agree with this statement.
This is what Niantic says: In response to the community’s inquiry, a Niantic support staff member shared the following: “I spoke with our team regarding the outstanding requests, but they confirmed that we have rolled out the rewards to all eligible accounts (the rollout process has now stopped).” (via nianticlabs.com).
Yet numerous trainers are still waiting for their rewards. Therefore, Niantic support points out that these players should recheck their eligibility:
- At least one Russian evaluation must have been submitted after they moved their home location to Russia during the event.
- It is also important that the location change occurred only during the event.
- The confirmation of at least one stop must have occurred during the event period. This means that suggestions confirmed only after the event ended will not be considered.
This is the community’s reaction
The community is angry about this procedure. According to the original announcement by Niantic, the rewards were supposed to be paid out by June 18. Some players had hoped for additional items for the GO Fest.
Trainer Beqqua-PGO writes on the Wayfarer community page on July 16: “It would really be nice to have the PoGo rewards for the GoFest!” (via nianticlabs.com). Other players, however, complain about Wayfarer’s actions.
Some participants feel that the terms of participation were adjusted afterward. They are particularly upset that they were not informed beforehand that the proposal also had to be confirmed during the event period.
Reddit user SuckyGamer2000 thus states that he finds it very controversial that these clarifications were only made after the event ended (via reddit.com). User psykick32 criticizes in this context that it also depends on luck when a particular suggestion is finally confirmed or rejected. Trainers have no influence over this (via reddit.com).
