In Pokémon GO the Lunar New Year
event is just around the corner. We’ll explain what Pokémon, bonuses, and more it brings along.
When does the event run? The Lunar New Year
event runs from Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM until Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 PM in Pokémon GO. In addition to a variety of well-known Pokémon, there will also be a completely new Pokémon along with interesting bonuses and a global challenge.
Which new Pokémon will be in the event? Sen-Long will make its debut in the game during the event. This Dragon and Normal type Pokémon comes from the 7th generation. It will also be available in its Shiny form.

Which Pokémon will be available during the event? During the event, you will encounter an increased but not exclusive amount of Dragon-type Pokémon. The following Pokémon will be waiting for you at the event.

What bonuses are active during the event? The following bonuses are active in the game during the event:
- Increased chance of receiving lucky Pokémon through trades
- Increased chance of becoming lucky friends
- You will receive extra candies for nice, great, and excellent throws
- Increased chance of XL candies for nice, great, and excellent throws (from level 31)
What global challenge is there in the event? With the start of the event, the global challenge Unleashed Dragons
also begins, where you will need to collaborate with all trainers around the world. The goal is to land good throws. If a total of 1,000,000,000 good throws have been completed by trainers worldwide, the global challenge is succeeded.
If this is achieved, there will be 7 additional wild Pokémon, of which 6 can appear in their Shiny form. Additionally, a 1*-Raid and a 3*-Raid will be added. Moreover, 5 Pokémon can learn exclusive moves when you evolve them. The specific Pokémon are not yet known, but their types are. This includes 2 ground types and one each of fairy, dragon, and normal types.
Additionally, there will be a fireworks display lighting up the sky. These bonuses will start once the 1,000,000,000 good throws have been successfully completed and will end with the event on February 11, 2024, at 8:00 PM.
What is included in the paid limited research? There will also be a paid limited research for the event costing $2 (about €2). This includes Stardust, experience points, 2 lucky eggs, and encounters with Pokémon related to the event.
