Mewtwo with the move Shadow Ball is now back in EX Raids of Pokémon GO. But is the attack worth it and what other moves are good?

So if you want Mewtwo with Shadow Ball, you need to complete an EX Raid in the coming weeks. You cannot teach Mewtwo the move via TM.
Mewtwo’s strength with Shadow Ball
What can the move do? At first glance, the move seems a bit useless, as Mewtwo is a Psychic type and Shadow Ball is a Ghost-type move. The legendary Pokémon does not have STAB, and no fighting bonus because it is not the same type as the move.
If you look closer, Mewtwo is damn strong with the move, as the attack does a strong base damage and Mewtwo has an enormous attack value.
With the move “Shadow Ball,” Mewtwo becomes one of the best ghost attackers in the game. Only the original form of Giratina and Chandelure perform better than Mewtwo.
In the best counters against Mewtwo, it is even placed third. So if you are currently battling an EX Raid, you can’t go wrong with a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball.
The 3 strongest moves of Mewtwo in Pokémon GO
Which move of Mewtwo is still worthwhile? Mewtwo can master a total of 8 moves. Some of them it can no longer learn now, but you may have received an older specimen. Mewtwo can learn the following moves in Pokémon GO:
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball (only in EX Raids)
- Confusion (only through past raids and the raid hour on Tuesday)
- Psycho Cut
- Focus Blast
- Hyper Beam (can no longer learn)
Of the 8 moves, only 3 are truly worthwhile. These include Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, and Confusion:
- With Ice Beam, Mewtwo ranks behind the top Ice attackers. It is in 4th place among the top counters against Rayquaza.
- Confusion makes Mewtwo the best all-rounder in the game and is therefore useful against almost every Pokémon. It is definitely the best Psychic attacker.
Don’t care about the move? If you already have enough Mewtwo with Shadow Ball or simply do not like fighting with Mewtwo, then the EX Raids have another function: Mewtwo can be shiny there. The chance is about 1 in 19.
