Since last night (September 20), the legendary Mewtwo is appearing in regular 5-star raids at Pokémon GO. The differences from the Mewtwo from EX-Raids are not immediately obvious, we will list them for you.
Right off the bat: Shiny Mewtwo has not yet been spotted by any trainer. Many have been looking forward to the shiny form of the Psychic monster. Whether the shiny form will be unlocked is currently unclear.
What is new? Four significant changes have been made to Mewtwo’s raids. It can now learn three new moves, has over 10,000 CP more than the EX-Raid Mewtwo at 60,450 CP, its catch chance has decreased, and catching this monster now rewards the trainer with five candies instead of three.
Three New Moves for Mewtwo
Mewtwo can now learn three new charged moves. You can see which moves it can no longer learn here.
- Flamethrower: A Flamethrower Mewtwo could better counter your Bug Pokémon, which are effective against the monster, as Fire is effective against Bug.
- Ice Beam: This move is effective against your Dragonite or other Dragon Pokémon you may have on your team.
- Thunderbolt: The Electric move hits your Gyarados hard, as it has a double weakness to it.
Stronger Ice Attacker than Articuno: These moves can’t do much against top attackers like Tyranitar or Gengar. If your Mewtwo has one of these three moves, it can be among the best attackers of its respective type. Thanks to its high attack value, Mewtwo, according to Pokemon GO Hub, is now even the best Ice attacker in the game, surpassing Articuno.

Mewtwo now has more CP than a Raid Boss
Mewtwo now has 60,450 CP in a raid. That is over 10,000 CP more than its EX-Raid predecessor. This means that more players are needed to defeat the raid boss. Five very good players are needed, and it should also be feasible with seven “normal” players.
Harder to catch: Once Mewtwo has been defeated, the chance of catching it has unfortunately decreased. Most players caught an EX-Raid Mewtwo, but this Mewtwo is now significantly harder to catch. It is suspected that the usual 2% catch rate is being used, which is also applied to other legendary monsters. Here, the new silver Nanab Berry is recommended. Higher catch chance plus double candies. Those who prioritize safety when catching should stick with the golden Razz Berry.
Five Candies Instead of Three
Anyone who manages to catch Mewtwo will be pleased with more candies. There are now five candies for catching it instead of the usual three candies. With a Nanab Berry, that would even be ten candies per Mewtwo.
